Not really a fishing topic other than I was site casting while standing on my Yeti. Cloudy and windy, dirty water but hey, out of the house for a while. I couldn’t help but think about Yeti’s recent cut with the NRA and why a company with the American outdoor sportsman in mind would make such a move. Do you think it will eventually affect their business?
While I don’t believe that the NRA generally speaks for all gun owners–I have difficulty painting any one group as a monolith–I DO believe that many of those who look to blame-shift on the gun issue by placing responsibility on the NRA for gun violence because it’s easier than acknowledging societal ills aren’t exactly in YETI’s target audience. Gun-fearing, God-doubting, easily-offended liberal hipsters aren’t as likely to drop $350+ on a cooler as, say, breadwinners who are looking to keep their beer cold as they escape the stress of the nine-to-five (plus overtime) that allows for such purchases.
Me? I own an Igloo. About once per year, I completely forget that nobody emptied out the cooler. Depending upon how long it takes before we use it again, that thing might look like the Son of Chernobyl. I’m not responsible enough to own a YETI.
The yeti buyer is mostly about the status and brand imagery. It will take a lot to damage the brand enough to have any impact. Its a very strong brand.

And…they work great. If someone doesn’t mind having their ice melt in a day, then an Igloo would work fine. But if you want a cooler that retains ice/cold longer and that will last a lifetime, then the Yeti makes sense. I would rather buy one and cry once than continually replace cheaply made parts on an Igloo cooler or the entire cooler itself needing replaced every few years due to cracking etc. To each their own on what they choose to spend their hard earned cash on.
To the OP, it will take a LOT for Yeti to lose their consumer support. Much more than their cutting ties with the NRA which will probably be reinstated once the firestorm blows over.
If I owned a big business I would probably try and keep a neutral stance on political issues. Dick’s Sporting Goods has lost up to 30% of their stock prices with recent political moves. With the tight competition on extreme coolers I would think that being unbiased would be the better business model. I don’t think Yeti is so solid they can take too many political hits. I always thought of the NRA as a second amendment protector especially during the last administration. I think Yeti would have made a better statement donating a million to the mental illness foundation of their choice but, that’s just my 2 cents
On another note, I have pelican and Yeti coolers. I personally think my pelican performs better than my Yeti
Yeah but how many times have you seen a pelican sticker, and no one rocks a dicks sticker on there truck. Ive had a yeti and igloo marine side by side on the beach, close in size, similar items and ice and they melt about the same when used. But a hot girl did walk by and say nice yeti, she didnt notice the igloo. If i want ice retention i salt my ice down. A lot of coolers as good or better than yetis but yeti’s still yeti. My brother works with guys that got yeti stickers on their truck because they think its cool. My brother loves his yeti tumbler though and ive heard they are great.
You can buy a lot of ice with the $300 or so difference between a Yeti and an Igloo. And the Ozark Trail coolers work just as good as a Yeti and are 1/3 the price.
I’d rather have more money for beer and bait.

Guys, jump on the ozark trail (walmart brand) coolers and tumblers. They’re every bit as good as the big name brands and significantly cheaper. I don’t trust a lot of their other crap but they got coolers figured out.
I am an RTIC guy. I got a YETI cooler bag years back for Christmas and it work great on the boat. You want a good cooler to stand on as a casting platform RTIC, Calcutta and Ozark will all get the job done at a cheaper price line. They are all rotomolded and preform. Some argue after RTIC had to remodel after they lost the suit they now preform better. Who knows I think Yeti will be fine but their market will shift. Hippies and bonfires not bears and back country. Cant wait to see the new commercials!

+1 on RTIC!
Live in Austin and YETI is majority owned by a “Private Equity Firm” now so the Bean Counters make all the decisions not the 2 Brothers that built the name, You should see their new $$$ ga-zillion headquarters in Austin.
All about styling and profilin. Under Armor didn’t get hurt when they started dropping hunters.
If it’s trendy and in style there will always be a crowd willing to spend money for something like that. On the Yeti, there was a brief time that they had the best (and most expensive) on the market. You can now buy much cheaper and just as good, but still not as trendy.
Thanks for posting that bangstick, that makes me feel much better about Yeti. I was hopeful it was just a misunderstanding.
I will say my Pelican beats Yeti everytime, has a lifetime warranty, love the snap-lock closures on the front.
The darn thing is 36 pounds empty though, for a 45 quart cooler. Add 20 lbs of ice, a case of beer and you’re trying to tote around a 76 pound cooler,45 quart cooler at that. I have one of those Coleman metal coolers, kinda retro style, and while it doesn’t hold ice as long as the Yeti or pelican, it does well enough.

Under Armor got crushed. $100 to $20 per share in the past 4-5 years. Don’t underestimate dollars from us Redneck outdoor guys
