I have the bug and now I’m seriously thinking about buying one.
I’m buying used and wanna stay under $15K so I don’t have to finance it, unless I find one at a dealership that’s willing to take the sailfish in trade. I’m not getting out of offshore fishing, I just find myself fishing inshore 10x more than I get to go offshore lately. And I enjoy it to no end.
Looking at 17’ and less, as skinny of water as possible of course. It’s going to be a backwater type of boat; it will not see the harbor except when I pull it over the Ravenel Bridge.
What’s the best bang for your buck these days and why? Plan on making a purchase by this time next year, so I have a little bit of time.

See if you can find a deal on an older HB Glades Skiff. It’s 18’ (17’8"), but will glide in a out 3"–even with me in it–and it only weighs 250 lbs (just like me ). The newer ones spec out at 3.5" draft and 380 lbs, and when HB tells you those numbers, they are real, because I’ve tested them with the fat-boy test.

Wouldn’t a fat beaver float higher than a anorexic beaver? Just saying.
I love that HB, they make a nice boat extremely durable.
There is a carbon fiber Sterling for sale at Rogue Motion currently for just under $30K! Nice set up but $30K for a used 16-foot with a 90, dog gone that is hard to swallow. I do have to say that carbon fiber showing through the resin on the underside of hatches looks real good.
I would check the internet close for some deals in Florida, where supply is high, price is always a little lower.

</font id=“quote”></blockquote id=“quote”>For your research, you should definitely be looking through MicroSkiffDotCom. Wealth of information there. But, maybe you already are?
I bought my boat through the Maverick forum (mbcboats.com) Good guys on there and a lot to choose from. You may want to check out the boat attached. Good looking boat. I am partial to the Hewes boats, not quite as shallow draft as some of the boats the others mentioned but they are hard to beat.
a 2000-2003 Maverick 17HPX should be close to your price range. Also Pathfinder made a 17T boat that is also an inexpensive way to get out there. It is now a Hewes 17 Tailfisher. There are all kinds of options. Your main brands will have the best resale if you ever want to get rid of it. Best of luck!
