Yea but how many of these guys get on the internet and post all these “secrets”. Sharing “secrets” at the bar around a few fisherman vs posting on the internet for ALL the world to see is different.

And for the record if you study Skinnees posts and pay attention to him he has shared WAY more secrets than 99% of those who post on this site and 100% of those who only read and don’t ever post.

Exactly!! A lot of people get their panties in a bunch, because they only wish that they had some “secrets” to keep or share!! IMO
Keep up the good work fun!! I enjoy the reports!

We were only addressing the one issue, not Skinnee. That reply was for the fishermen who do not sharfe their secrets ever. Of course the reasons are obvious to all, but personally I get a better feeling helping someone else than I ever get catching fish. Just my .02 worth. Catching 35 King Mackerel in a feeding frenzy was not nearly as exciting as someone saying your tip really helped me catch more fish. I really don’t expect everyone to feel like me of course, but a happy medium would be very nice. Those who haven’t tried it would be very pleasantly surprised I believe. As to Court, Skinnee, and many others I am very thankful for their secret help like this thread is one of the best I have read on here, again thanks Court and Skinnee.

Scootin…as I said above , I could care less about you or me keeping a fishing secret, but I can assure you that you won’t ever hear me saying “gee, what’s in it for me?” That type of remark shows poorly…and for the record I’ve had a lot of help in business, fishing, etc. over the years…it makes me feel good to offer a little help occasionally…and I don’t expect anything in return…

Consider these reasons why people may keep secrets…

  1. They want an edge in a fishing tournament
  2. If we were all apex fishermen, how many fish would be left? If most people suck at fishing, then wouldn’t there be more fish around?
  3. What’s in it for me to teach everyone else how to fish?
  4. Part of the fun of fishing is the learning process.
  5. Avoid crowding… If I told the world that Feb was the best month to catch blackfin, how many boats will be running over m WWWWTFBWWWTB at the hole?

It’s not rocket science. People invented secrets for a reason!!!

Skinneee…I love your reason #3…“what’s in it for me”…that’s the problem with young people like you…I don’t have a problem with a secret here and there, after all that’s part of fishing, but you show that you’re not very classy or gentlemanlike or mature when you say-“what’s in it for me”…trust me when I tell you that I’ve caught a few yft and bft and I never heard anyone at Toler’s or any other gathering place say such when we were having a beer talking a little fishing…ymmv…

adios... You might want to read the reply again before you pass personal judgement on me. It doesn't say, "skinnee's reasons". It says, "consider the reasons why people may"... I want you to think about that for a few moments...

And before you call me greedy, I just chipped in $100 to pay for some other soul to go up to washington. What have you done other than come to this website looking for free advice?

You may have never heard other people say

People share things in different ways... Why dont' you share some money with me and I will share some secrets... It's just money. You can get more tomorrow just like I can get more secrets tomorrow...

Some of these guys who run these charter boats make a living because they know what the next boat doesn’t.

dandaman, was that on your boat or did you hire a captain that had a lot of "secrets" in his head. I wonder if this guy would still be employed if every Tom, Adios ("Dick") and Harry were pulling in tunas like this week in and week out?

Good job Courtland!! Funny how these posts always seem to take a different turn.
Planning on trying the poppers soon.

I would also like add that without a “crew” this type of fishing is difficult. PoleDancer(Reggie) is the one responsible for peaking my interest in this tackle and techniques.

Skinnee…1.) I read the reply again and it appears to me that you clearly stated and I’ll quote “What’s in it for me?” That’s you skinnee, just as you are included in the reference to “people” above that statement…you is a “peeps” aren’t you? 2.)Check your facts, son, I didn’t call or imply that you were greedy-you brought up greed-guilty conscience? 3.)I am not nor was I ever referring to a commercial fisherman of any type… it’s my impresssion we were all just “fishermen”…I believe the cappie’s forum is elsewhere…Courtland appears to be a recreational fisherman…I didn’t notice any charter cappies in this discussion nor would I ever ask a charter cappie for “livelihood secrets”-paranoid much?

In closing I would like to apologize to Courtland for disrupting his great thread…Courtland , great job!

If you say so...

But the bottom line is that I am not naive enough to not understand why secrets exist in today’s world, especially in fishing which is typically a pretty competitive activity. Maybe you can do some research on the web or something to figure out the pyschology of why people keep secrets in competitive activities. I’d like to see a show of hands of people who DON’T feel rewarded when they “outfish” the crowd… There is a sense of self-accomplishment that one gets when they set out to do what other’s couldn’t or couldn’t figure out how to do and they pull it off. They don’t call a big fish a “trophy” for nothing!

Also, many fishermen also understand the concept of “Tragedy of the Commons” (look it up before you respond). If everyone in this sport were super good fishermen, then the fish would be wiped out. Sometimes keeping your mouth shut IS what is best for everyone. Take bottomfishing for instance. Compare people’s reports tha

And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. About the best thing that one can do for their fishing education is to pay money to fish with as many pro's as possible.

Be thankful that guys like this have “secrets” that make them worth a charter. Your group probably paid a couple of grand to fish on that boat! Now, Adios wants his “cut” of what you learned!

Skinneee…this will be my final thought on this subject…you missed my point obviously…I could care less if you have a secret about fishing as I stated above, it’s not about that…it’s about the attitude younger gentlemen in general have(what’s in it for me) that shows what you’re truly made of…

So you going to hide behind your keyboard or are you going to step up and give money to the Washington DC cause to protect our rights?

What are you “truly made of” sir?

If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you’ve got an electrical problem.

before this intercrap thing you had to be trusted by fellow fisherman to recieve good top secret info. now all you need is a pocket protector and a little tape on your glasses. Bibs should be standard issue on this site because the bullsh… is deep.

Adios!!! adios…

eres un idiota…

Ok Scootin…I have “ponied up”…Now are you going to hide behing your keyboard or will you show us what you are truly made of…go ahead ,accept the challenge!
