STONER(11-20-08)

Decided I had better things to do than work today. After my wife reminded me of some prior obligations(Thanksgiving lunch w/ my 5 year old), Bad Apple and Marsh Monkey set sail w/me for an afternoon on the water. We didn’t care where, just as long as it was wet. Made it to 90’ with relative ease. Lines in at 1PM. To our surprise we boated no less than 18 of these.

On the way in found a bunch of gannets and picked up 8 or so more reds in the same size on rubber baits.

Another beautiful day.

Totals:
1 donkey
20+ Big reds
4 ARS
3 Big BSB
1 flounda

That’s cool to see them offshore, but too bad you can’t keep any of them…

The ones we caught close to the beach had a real deep bronze color. Way darker than the ones in the photos. Gotta love big dumb fish.

Those gaffs in the mouths will make you a CF celebrity.

This time of year at the Charleston 60 you can catch them all night long.

It’s that or beat there head against the boat in three footers, all fish were released with little more than a bruised ego. I’ll take the heat.

Probably…

except the ones that swam away.

Catch anything today J.A.?

ouch!

5 pages

Luke 8:22-25

let the photoshop begin.

ya man will swim away doesnt mean that they live redfish die from exhaustion and stress(trauma) and bringing them up from 90 feet is enough much less hangin him up for a pic on a gaff you shouldnt even hold a breeder red like that up on a boga, probably stuffed a few up in the anchor box.

Yeah!!!

Let’s get em!!!

nothing wrong with catching them in 90’ of water. just make sure you deflate the bladder before releasing them and do your best to revive as much as possible.

Hey tree hugger, I caught one last week and used it for crab bait.

There are too many reds around anyway. It’s really the only fish that south carolina cares about. 90% of the tagging program is dedicated to red fish, even though we have shifted primarily to release. I say, let them all die off so we can tag some fish that need it…

Just kidding, but it does suck that they dominate the tagging program. How much more fish do we need to tag at the grillage before we figure out that they live at the grillage???

ya did you gaff the nice bsb’s to so that their heads didnt bang aginst the boat becaus of 3fts , my theory is you never caught a redfish and didnt know what is was or u just got the gaff and wanted to see how sharp it was

No, the BSB’s are dead, along with mister flounder. The crabs ate all my bait and I needed more. The gaff is sharp though, it did a good job on the air bladders. That is how you vent them, right?

at least you got some good eats how did you cook the redfish that you stuffed in the anchor box
