Straight Out Saturday on The Pi - with pics

Lynn, Thomas and Cameron joined us on Saturday for another offshore adventure. We’d heard several mixed reports from Friday, so we decided the best possible route to go would be to head straight out, drop lines and head South. We left St. Johns just before 7 and had a comfortable ride out while taking out time - no reason to throttle up when you don’t have to.

SLOW morning trolling, but we’d heard the bite didn’t turn on Friday til after 2PM. As soon as we got the first bait in the water just after 7AM we immediately had a hit - had another one as soon as the second bait went it. We figured both were little mahi as we only saw their small splashes after seeing their jumps in the early morning shadows. We then proceeded to pick up no less than half a dozen cudas which, IMO, just hurts your arms for no good reason.

Then, at 1030AM on the dot with me at the wheel in exactly 159 feet of water, that awesome tune of the line just zingin’ fills our ears! It was undoubtedly a wahoo! Thomas hits the rod, and we boat the fish in no time. The fish didn’t appear that long to me, but it sure was fat - Thomas and Lynn guessed it to be in the mid 30’s, but since we don’t carry scales or take the time to find one on the way in we’ll just all have to guess.

We continue trolling South and head to 250 feet where we have no action for the next hour. Turned back and found the beginnings of a weed line. That just meant clearing weed off lines pretty often, but the “baby weed line” did become productive as we boated a nice cow that I reeled in, a good size bull hauled in by Lynn and several peanuts. Of course, we had the occasional cuda in the mix as well.

It was getting late, but we decided to stay out another hour as the beginning formation of the weedline we’d discovered had been putting fish in the box. And, just like the sound we’d heard a few hours before, we heard it again - that zinging sound that only a wahoo makes. Jack takes the rod and fights the fish to the boat. It was probably the same siz

Way to go on the fish. Great report and good pictures as well!

That’s exactly right, Penny! A nice Pen Fish jumped right into the fish box in the driveway in October! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m beginning to think I’m gonna have to pretend to be you and call the VA Hospital to tell them you can’t make it in during one of your scheduled shifts so you’ll go offshore with me! Believe you me, it’s hard being the only gal out there with all those boys! One more gal will ensure they all behave!

Oh, and I happen to know exactly where those boat keys live! I think if I ever pull off my plan, however, that I may be served with divorce papers at the dock! :face_with_head_bandage:

And I thought Daddy and I were the only ones who use that quote, Lynn!

Next time, Ronnie, and that’s a promise! I bought another stubby bubbler just like Lynn’s and one that’s red and black to see how they hold up unbusted. If they don’t produce, I’m gonna jump on em!:stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Wooohooooooooo, sounds like a great day. Congrats on the catches.

Uh oh… I’ve exceeded the limit on my photobucket account, so I supposed that’s why the pics are disappearing? I’ll try to fix and re-post pics. My apologies…
