So late last night we had some lines yaked out and at around 10:30 one pole got slammed and instantly snapped, within 2 minutes later the other one went down and snapped as well. We originally thought the poles were too far back and were rubbing against the sand causing the line to snap. Flash forward 2 hours later and the same exact thing happens, in the same order, in the same spot. It’s hard to believe it was just a coincidence that two poles were hit the same way with the same instant snap in the same order just two hours apart. We were all baffled and couldn’t figure out what it was. Our lines were dropped pretty much into the harbor and we think it could have been something underwater such as a submarine but it was hard to really tell. Anyone ever experience anything like this? each hit the line got pulled hard initially with about 2-3 seconds of drag pulling, then snap. The drag was set loose on all poles…
Isis or North Korean submarine ?
Thats freaking weird, there had to have been some kind of sharp structure ledge out there when you got your runs that it cut off all your lines quickly, possibly when the sharks dropped in deeper into the harbor. Was the area new to you, or have you had success fishing there before? Show us your shark pics:stuck_out_tongue: I know you have some. Good luck Sir:smiley:
Harbor Tuna! They come in close, this time of year!
I have fished this spot many times before and have never had this happen to me. I almost want to rule out the possibility of it being a shark/fish because both times the poles were “hit” in the same order in the same way. Right pole down 90 seconds later left pole down…same thing happened 2 hours apart… seems like something was in the channel… Very odd.
I’ve been thinking about what you said and it sounds like you had abunch of blacktips in the area. Had it happen several times myself. What happens is the sharks are cruising through and actually get the line in their mouth, they freak and it rips off a decent bit of line and then they bite through the line. May not be what is going on but I’ve had the same thing happen on several trips myself. It does sound strange but is a good possibility. If you ever want some company hit me up on here. I’m off during the week thus month and back to weekends off next month. I head out almost every weekend. Also, if you’re fishing where i think you’re fishing there are a lot of big sharks that roam that area. Had some good hookups just haven’t been able to make the hook stick long enough to get them in.
I’m on the beach right now reading this and I just got bit off on my mak 15. You bastard you jinxed me
