Not in a few years, but January and Feb. are your months. Large Shiners or a buck tail. Anywhere from Fields Point to Bluff Plantation. Some really big ones have been caught pretty close to steel bridge. Never done it but I have a friend that has trolled for them in that river with some success near the Combahee eddy.
I know almost nothing about that area but am very interested. We’ve got a place on eddings point road. I normally don’t come down much during the winter. I do my striper fishing in the upstate. The colder months are our best fishing so I just fish up here. Which i do a lot of. I will be coming down for a long weekend to do some maintenance in a few weeks. I think I’m gonna bring the striper gear and some live bait. Is there any live bait around? Any mullet or menhaden left? I fishedd up the cohmbehee one time. It was master weekend(spring) and I rode up to an area with some bluffs. Fished back down river for a few miles. Zero bites. I did mark some nice fish on the graph. According to state DNR those fish don’t migrate to the ocean and up the coast. They are resident fish that spend the summers up the rivers in colder moving water. Then move to the saltwater areas when the water gets cold. My first question is, what would be there main forage in our saltwater estuaries in the winter? I know there is still a large veriaty of food around. Eels, crabs, shrimp, and other fish. All of which striper eat. I’ll bring some bait from home. There’s a lot of water to cover and information helps make it possible. I’ll post anything I find. Are there any ramps around hwy17?
There is a landing at the “steel bridge” that crosses the Combahee River on hiway 17.
There is a BUNCH of fresh water coming down the river, and the water is staying higher than normal. I would have made more trips this year, but the water just didn’t get right for how I normally catch a few. The steel bridge is a good landing, but good luck finding a parking spot during duck season!
Reeldawg, there is a good ramp on the Edisto off 17 at Jacksonville, never fished stripers there! But sure they are around all I’ve ever seen is a lot of sturgon! I would think drifting down the river freelineing with live herring should produce.
Ment to say Jacksonboro! Just follow the signs to the ramp.
Thanks going to try tomorrow around the tide will post here is any luck

What Raddaddy said. Water has been up for quit some time. Should be good for Spring Red Breast if it stays up.
Anyone out there got any input on how the fishing is? Haven’t been out there in a month or two. Was catching spot tail all the way up to the tea house… and then a little further up. but not now.
