Submerged boat trailer

Last Monday 12/15 I hit something that stopped my boat when I was idleing up to load my boat on the trailer at live oak landing (State Park Landing). It was almost dark and I couldn’t tell what it was. I stopped by at dusk the next day at low tide and could tell it was a boat trailer. I couldn’t get my boat in to get a better look due to some gentlemen trying to load a large pontoon and two young ladies trying to assist them who were ready to launch their boat on the other ramp. I contacted law enforcement the next morning after wondering all night if a car was attached to the trailer. A young lady Edisto Beach police officer met me at landing just as it was breaking day and using her flashlight, we could see the wheel of the trailer. She told me later that she had notified the state park and they were planning to remove the trailer the next morning. I stopped by the next day after fishing out of steamboat landing and the live oak landing was closed. While I was turning around, a park ranger pulled up and told me they did not get trailer up due to the tide getting to high but they did see that a boat was on the trailer. The landing was open the next afternoon so they must have gotten it out but I haven’t heard any more details. I was curious if anyone had heard any additional information.

I fished Tuesday thru Saturday in the North Edisto with fair results. Caught 10-20 fish each day. Most were spottails in the 14-16 inch range with a few large mixed in, a few nice black drum, and a few trout. The trout bite has really slowed in the last couple of weeks.

oops- i was wondering why it was closed the other day. wonder how that happened and someone just left it there.

I stopped by to see if they needed a scuba diver to help, but the ranger said they had it handled. I saw a fire truck but could not tell if it was St. Paul’s or Edisto Beach FD.

I was contacted by the EB Police officer (Ashley) today to let me know that there was a 2003 Exterra attached to the boat trailer. The owner was contracted and said he lost the vehicle and boat thanksgiving weekend. It had not been reported stolen or anything. The incident is being handled by DNR. I thought it was very nice of Officer Ashley to pass this info to me.

Rob

that’s wierd…who just leaves it there?

Must have let the new girlfriend back the boat in. Almost happened to me a Dawhoo. Reeeeeeaaal scary.[:0]

If you ain’t hooked, you ain’t doing it right.

It is very interesting that the owner did not report this. In the past a local towing company contacts me to help with the recovery of submerged vehicles, boats, and trailers at Edisto landings by scuba diving and connecting the cable. All of those are reported the day of the accident. For this not to be reported something illegal must be going on. DNR will figure it out I am sure. Since Botany Bay opened, I have seen SO MANY MORE DNR agents on the island than in the past.

There’s a good chance that adult beverages were involved:roll_eyes:
