For some Reason the images are sideways and I can’t change it
Two day fishing report. This surf fishing section has been super dead lately, so figured I’d liven it up a bit.
Took my buddy with me who’s only ever fished Sullivan’s now four times total. He’s never done any kind of real saltwater fishing let alone targeting for flounder. First day for us started at 4:30am. Arrived on the beach and was able to catch some bait after about 30 minutes. Around 5:30, we waded out a bit in the water with spotlight in tow. We were not there even an hour before he hooks into the beauty of a 27" doormie.
From around that first flatty up until around 8am, we were just being decimated by crabs and small spanish. Tide turns so we head back into the water one last time and BAM. He hooks into another solid fish at 25". This one had me a little salty as I was broken off by a flounder this past Wednesday that had some potential of being a mid 20" fish. Well sure as heck, we get this 25" flatty on the beach and he had my hook embedded on the white side of him where he had broke me off two days prior. Goes to show you those flounder hang around the area for quite some time.
After that pretty much nothing, so we packed up and prepped for today.
Well, today started off very rough. Current was strong as well as the winds and the water was so chopped, it took nearly 2 hours before there was any bait in the water that we could actually see.
Fished up until around 10:30 and it resulted in a 17" (by me) and a 20" (from my buddy). All in all it was a great two days of fishing that resulted in over 6lbs of filets. I was ecstatic to bring a bass fishermen to saltwater and see him have amazing results.
if you don’t mind me asking, where do you target flounder/drum/redfish at sullivans? im new to surf fishing and have been fishing at the “main beach” areas of the island and have only caught whiting/sharks/rays and a small tuna. i’ve gotten pretty good at what i’ve been doing and am loving it but now i’m looking to catch some fish better to eat

I jump back and forth between all the rock jetties. Fish close to the rocks when possible. Left side incoming, right side out going. Make your own Carolina rigs and make lots of them prior to your trip. Valuable fishing time wasted making them on the beach when you break off. I premake around 20-30 before my trip. Tides move fast. Don’t be that guy wasting an hour of prime fishing making rigs.
40/slim shady will not be happy about all this info being put out there.haha
Could care less to be quite honest. The area hasn’t been a secret for some years now. One person will say,“this is why the fishing community has gone down.” Another will say, “it’s because the community is full of @holes.” Here’s a direct quote from someone I saw in another post. “Only fags worry about reposting a post or fishing pressure”
