Sullivans 9/28

Got to the beach around 830am just as the tide was starting to come back up. Threw out a rig for redfish wich immediately got torn to shreds by bluefish. Threw on my bluefish hooks and hooked into several. The ones that managed to stay on the hooks i kept to eat. The whiting were scarce probably from the bluefish but i did manage to get a few for bait. The bite died off in an hour as the water was coming up. Not a single bite from around 930am-130pm. The water was warm and very clear as well. Fished with cut whiting and fishbites shrimp.

Got to use my new penn pursuit 6000 rod and reel. I have to say for a budget rod and reel it works great.

How do you like the bg? I pulled the trigger on a 4500 this afternoon. From what I have read people really like them and at 100 bucks a reel they are a great value for what you get. From tinkering with it they seem durable and verrry smooth. Hold allot of line as well. Time will tell. You going to eat those blues. I see you bleed them out.

I eat those too

Hey Steve, what are these fish bites you surf gurus speak of?Can you post a picture .

Yes i absoulutly love the daiwa bg 8000 its rock solid and smooth. Feels like it should be worth way more. I got it for the huge line capacity as well and as a shark reel.

I am going to eat the blues a little lemon pepper and flour fried up tastes great.

As for the fishbites sman. You can throw them on a sabiki rig with tiny peices and catch whiting all day. I have also hooked slot reds on fishbites. As well as pompano, lady fish, and stinrays. Using various sizes of hooks and size of fishbites.

Thanks pardner

I have 2 BG 8000s that we use for Sharks… They work great! Ive never used one of the smaller sizes but I can tell you from experience the 8000s are awesome! One of the smoothest BIG reels on the market… Lots of line capacity and drag pressure… We stop sharks over 6ft in there tracks… Not to mention one of the smoothest drag systems ive every used. Ive fully dunked them in saltwater and left them out over night, still works like new. Defiantly worth the money!

Yes sir at 100 bucks a reel I figure it is worth testing one of them out in my spread. So far the reviews are solid across the board. Wouldn’t it be great if they hold up and we don’t have to shell out a couple hundred dollars to get a quality reel. Looking into them for a surf reel for smaller fish and reds I like the 4500. Once you get the reels in sizes 4500 and above they have upgraded internals. The 4500 shares the same body as the 5500. The 5500 just has more line capacity but the 4500 holds plenty of line for the application I’m using it for. Mine held 300 yds of 30lb braid and like 50 yds of 30lb mono on top which is way enough. The 6500 and 8000 share the same body if I’m not mistaken. With the 8000 holding more line. The reels run a little large by comparison to allot of other reels. The only reason to go as big as the 6500 or the 8000 is for sharks. If rolling for sharks I think the 8000 is the way to go seeing how the crazy line capacity is useful for sharks. The drag rating is about half as the rating on the reliable power house Cabo’s. But with the killer capacity, someone should have plenty of time to slow down a fish when running. Best of luck folks, go get um.

your reel handles are on the wrong side

I missed that? Must be a “Lefty” :stuck_out_tongue:

Im right handed cant gish with handle on the left side.

Never knew about those fish bites.
How does your red vs blue rig change?
Those baby blues are good eating.
Thanks for the report.

“No… it’s okay, I know the way out…”

The blues wont touch the fishbites. I use a small peice like the size of a dime of cut whiting. And i use either a single drop or couble drop rig with a 1/0 j hook. This has given me the best hook up ratio. The best advice i can give for the bluefish is it doesnt matter what rig you have on if you dont set the hook right after the bite you will miss the fish.

Dumb question maybe but why are the heads partially cut off on the blues??

I cut them under the head by the gills to bleed them. Ive noticed the meat tastes better.
