Went out with my brother in laws around 8:30 pm. Fished an incoming tide until around midnight. Caught 7 whiting, 2 baby shark, 3 sharp nose’s between 2’-3’, and a 17" hard headed catfish.
Whiting and baby sharks were caught on shrimp, and the sharp noses and catfish were caught on chunks of whiting on our shark rig.
Surprised you caught that saltwater catfish, I rarely hear about them being caught, read from DNR that some virus nearly wiped them out, use to be everywhere. Have to release them now. Went fishing with a guy at Folly and caught 7 Atlantic Sharpnose from 2-3 foot, they tear up that whiting.
That’s actually a Sail Cat. Probably covered in slime too, eh? We used to catch big ones 10bs + in florida
I agree, at first I wasn’t sure but looking at the back fin it definitely was a gafftopsail
never caught one in sc but gafftops are all over the place down where im at. got 3 of those about that size, about a 16" whiting, and a small jack crevalle tho start out the morning.
The hardhead and gafttopsail saltwater cats are what are prohibited by SC DNR. I could catch a dozen or more a day 10 years ago, have’nt caught but a few since. http://www.dnr.sc.gov/regs/pdf/saltwaterfishing.pdf#page=3
