Sullivan's Island trip

Hey guys, I’ll be coming down to Sullivans Island next week, and plan to do a ALOT of surf fishing. I’m staying at a house a couple of blocks from Poe’s Tavern, and hoped to get some advice. Any tips about times, locations, where to get bait/tackle (Haddrell’s?) and methods would be appreciative. I’ve already learned a lot on here (troughs and such), and hope to learn more.

How many rods you gonnna fish? Buy some sand spikes/rod holders.
Do 1 double drop rig with 1/2 a shrimp on each hook.
Do another rod with a fish finder rig and live finger mullet (if you have a cast net, you’ll be able to get plenty at the beach).
On the shrimp, you’ll get whiting, small sharks, pomps, maybe blues, maybe small reds.

Two rods. Already have sand spikes. Do you find that live mullet is better than cut? I don’t have a casting net, so I might buy one. If I buy one, what is the best method for catching the mullet in the surf? Do any of you have luck throwing artificials in the surf?
