Sullivan's Island

Went fishing from 10:00 am til about 3:30pm today at Sullivan’s. Fished one of the rock piles off the beach at station 28 I think it was. We had an interesting day. He caught 1 small whiting and 1 small rockfish. He had something good on but had a reel malfunction and lost the fish. I caught 3 whiting between 6-8 inches and fought something for 15 mins that ran hard. Couldn’t even stop the reel with my hand. I managed to get him near the rocks and land him but he didn;t come up enough and took off again. It ended up going around the end of the rocks and rubbing me off. It took a good 100 yards on it’s first run. I also managed to land 2 18-20 inch guitarfish. I have never seen them oustide of an aquarium. Has anyone ever caught any here? They put up a decent fight actually. Everything was caught on live shrimp fished on the bottom.

the 3 foot redfish in my profile picture was caught at sullivans and definately took a while to land and would smack a live shrimp and make multiple runs. think that may have been the culprit? im probably trying tomorrow and nope never seen a guitarfish other than the aquarium in myrtle beach.

That’s a once in a lifetime thing to catch. Good report.

Light travel’s faster than sound. This is why some people appear smart until you hear them speak.

Yeah I’m thinking it was a big redfish. Stuck as far as a once in a lifetime catch I caught 2 of them so I guess it’s a twive in a lifetime catch. lol

tons of bonnetheads off SI right now also

tried there today and saw several people at station 30, but all i caught was a couple small whiting and 2 baby sharpnose.

Lot of sharks and big reds out there now! As well as big rays
