Hit the beach on Friday and with all the recent rain I wasn’t expecting too much, but ended up catching a few. I started the day heading to my spot, which was covered with hundreds of seagulls and pelicans. Some people hunt fish, some hunt boats, I like birds. Find the birds, and often there will be fish close by. I fished a few hours before low tide and a few hours after low tide with fresh shrimp. Within 30 minutes my first and only red of the day. Shortly after I deployed some cut whiting on my red rods and casted that out a bit further, and kept working shrimp up close. The rod with the cut whiting slammed over and the run was on. Something ripped off a couple of hundred yards, even though I put the hammer to him with my cabo 80. Whatever it was, it was truly a powerful fish and all I could do was point the rod straight at it while it humbled me. After 15 minutes the red rig bit off and that was that. I totally get why the shark guy’s love, and do what they do, it was incredible. Kept on and caught 6 blk drum, a lady, a bunch of whiting. The afternoon storms rolled in late in the day and I about had to walk away, but they just missed me. Early evening my red rod started to peel off line again and all I could think of was here goes another blacktip thats going to pop off. I fought it for a while and got him to turn. It was about 5 feet ,no measurement was done. Caught on 30lb braid, 50lb mono liter and #5 owner hook. A hefty dose of luck brought that one in. Good day folks.
great report Pete, congrats!!!

Yes Sir Surfwrangler. DF by the time we get sharks to shore they are pretty tired. We bring in close as we can by pole, walk out and carefully grab by tail. It’s important to have everything readily available, to get them back quick. While fish is running I grab phone for pic and pliers to remove hook and put in the basket on my surf cart and am ready to go before he hits the beach. When shark is in close enough I snap pic, pull hook and pull fish back out a little deeper and give the shark a moment to catch his breath. If they are good size I leave partially in water for the whole process as recommended by the shark boys. The big sharks that the shark boy’s catch they have teams to expedite, my wittle ones can be dealt with by one person as long as you stay calm, work fast and am organized. Thank you all for your posts Mr. Taylor and thank you DF for your service Sir, good man.
