Sun on the horizon????

One of my friends on FB that lives on a boat at Coosaw posted up this AM that the sun is about 8 degrees further down on the horizon than usual for this time of year??? Anybody else that watches this closer than I do notice anything???

If true, that would be quite an amazing thing, essentially changing either the law of gravity or the orbit of the Earth. The sun is almost exactly in the same position as it was last year, changing almost immeasurably due to the slowing of the Earth’s rotation and variations in the orbit around the sun. Last night the sun set at 5:21 PM at an angle of 39.6. Last November 11 the sun set at 5:21 PM at an angle of 39.8, a 0.2 difference. Visually that is about 1/5 the width of your pinky held at arm’s length. We are about 12,000 miles closer to the sun this year, but out of 93,020,000, that’s essentially imperceptible. :sunglasses:

Many things affect perception of the sun versus the horizon. Did your friend move their boat, or is something else in the way this year (another boat or new building)? Could be any number of things to cause this visual illusion.
