I’ve been throwing muddies under corks, plus 3" pearl Gulp shrimp and 4" pearl Gulp swimming mullet under corks and on jig heads. I’ve also thrown some of the Norton Sand Eel Jrs with success. I’ve retired the DOAs due to water temps.
Yesterday I fished with Haulin Bass and we caught around 25 or 30 trout and he caught 4 bass…and all came on muddies fished on the bottom on jig heads. They did not want the plastics or Gulps…they wanted “red meat” It was fairly slow compared to previous…after that front dropped the temps and with the bluebird sky. I imagine today & on will be better. We searched a number of places before we found them biting fairly deep.
On Monday, just before the storm chased me off the water, I caught trout almost at will on mud minnows and artificials, plus 6 bass, all in about an hour and a half in the light rain. I made it off the water just in time! WHEW!
In the words of the late Captain “Boo” Lachicotte from Charleston DNR Marine Center, when the water is this cool, “If you’re turning the reel handle, you’re turning it too (**() fast!” Nothing could be truer…don’t swim the baits…work them slowly and in contact with the bottom. You’re going to lose a few in the shells, but you’ll catch much more. Best advice I can give! Good luck!
Thanks Jim;
I appreciate the helpful tips from you and madfire. I was mostly a freshwater fisherman the first 55 years of my life and I’ve been in the salt for the last 7 or so. I’ve so much to learn still, fishing in salt water. I’ve been humbled many times. Pete T. took my out a few years ago to introduce me to redfishing and I lucked up on a 32" fish. I’ve yet to come close to repeating that. I think that he was using some sort of “redfish call” that day. Anyway Merry Christmas and thanks for the help. Bob T.
Wishing all of you tight lines and screaming drags.

Hey Pharm, that 32" fish wasnt luck, it was trained amd planted for you to catch. If i remember that trip right we rode all over the coosaw looking for fish and finally found that one at a place we call telephone island cause g8rnsc donated his cell phone to the fish there. hope you are doing well.
Hey Pete; That prescription that I filled for you sat for over a year while you were hangin out in Texas. I finally uncorked the snakebite prevention medicine and protected myself and my son Mike. I’d be happy to offer you a refill if we can ever get together. My thanks again for a very memorable day. Fish fear you! Merry Christmas Bob T.
Wishing all of you tight lines and screaming drags.

I shouldn’t say this, but oh well. Not only are they plentiful but farther up stream than I’ve seen trout go. Lack of fresh water or shear numbers this year?
Everyone knows that the only fish the combahee holds are large mouth bass and mudfish…[:0] maybe a few rockfish.
Crazy how habitats change, around 93-94 a crabber friend of mine caught a couple of red breast in a trap near fields point. A lot of fresh water coming through then.
