Sunday in the Lowcountry...

Frank & I hit the water at 7 this morning. It could not have been calmer or more beautiful.

We picked at the trout and bass for a couple of hours, then went to a point on the last of the outgoing, left it for an hour at dead low, then came back for an hour of the incoming. Caught around 70+ trout. Many were keepers…but released all. All on artificials.

This trout season continues to amaze me! I’ve never seen anything like it!

That’s a beautiful pic!

It is a great year for trout, compared to the last 2. And that is a beautiful picture:sunglasses:

Thanks, Guys. That pic was there looking out toward the ocean just after we cleared the fog coming out of the Coosaw into the Combahee. As calm as it gets!

Heaven!

should have kept on going offshore! dont see seas like that especially in december… and the grouper should be close!

Every time jim calls to give me the update, its like a broken record…went to yadayada and caught yadayada moved to yadayada and killed em on yadayada. Makes me proud cause I taught him everything he knows. Before me, he thought a gulp was what goldfish did in their tank. The boy used plastic perch floats with a gold hook. Drove to the middle of the river, dropped anchor and used 8 oz weights with a #15 hook for trout (male crickets for bait). His first “trout” was a whiting, but he was so happy I couldnt tell him. The next whiting he caught I netted, used a sharpee to draw a spot on its tail and told him it was a redfish. He bout peed his big girl pantys, jumping up and down and yellin “Im bonafied, Im bonafied!.”

That’s funny stuff! He’s come a long way in 6 months. Good job Jim.

He right…I knew nothing about fishing when I came to Beaufort in 2006. I owe it all to Jiggy. The first few times we fished, everything was cool. Then, out came the purple pants and orange shoes. I made the decision then & there I would not get caught dead with this guy, so I learned to fish fast</font id=“red”> so I could kick him to the curb and no longer have the embarrassment of him in my boat.

Wow…the (fish’n) family secrets are coming out now! lmao

NICE sunrise pic Jim!!!

AND never a dull moment around here

He had the whiting mounted.

I was going to have you mounted but they couldn’t match the purple pants.

That pic is amazing to me because I was on the water at 6:45 am and the fog was thick as smoke till11 am. Visibility was so bad I had two boats kill the throttle 50 yards from me to keep from hitting me. I put a hurting on the reds. 40-50 all released

In fact, to think that pic was from Sunday blows my mind

I had to idle from Sam’s Point, Lucy Creek to Parrot Creek before the fog lifted enough to see beyond the bow of my boat. After trying a drop at the mouth of Parrot without success, we decided to head across the Combahee. I had to idle again from the mouth of Parrot to the intersection of the Coosaw & the Combahee. At that point the fog disappeared over the Combahee and out to sea, but was still thick as pea soup all across the Coosaw. It was a bit weird…but there was a degree or two of difference from the Coosaw into the Combahee…so I guess that’s why the fog stopped there. Humidity, dewpoints and all…

That pic was taken around 7:15 or 7:30.

Jim; If you don’t mind sharing, what are you throwing to the trout this time of year? Still popping corks or swimming some artificials? My sons and I will fish the colleton river nest week and appreciate any advice. Thanks Bob T.

Wishing all of you tight lines and screaming drags.

I throw a 3" white gulp shrimp on a 1/4 oz plain round lead gamakatsu jig head. I will also use the natural colors as well. I am sure Jim will chime in soon enough he likes to hook the gulp shrimp like you would a live shrimp (dont thread it on let it dangle so to speak) float it under a cajun cork. Both methods will catch fish… Also fish mud minnows the same way as above. Also try free lining the minnow with only a split shot for weight. Good luck!
