Sunday Surfing 9/11/16

On the beach about 8:30, fished hard for almost 10 hours. Whiting bite was okay most of the day. Picked up a few Black Drum, one was decent. 1 Weakfish, 1 Speck a couple Blues and small Rays, hand full of Reds a few were decent. All fish but one Red caught on shrimp.

Nice catchin D , looked like fun day!!!

Nice Reds!

Thats a great day of fishing Mr. Parker . Nice work Sir. Which red was caught on something other than shrimp?

Thanks guys. “ANY” days spent fishing are good! Catchin’ makes them better. Sharks are still thick. I was hesitant to fish chunk bait so I only carried one big rod. Threw cut Whiting and Blue fish all day. The largest Red bit a Blue chunk, and a correction, the last fish of the day (healthy 18"-20" Blue) hit a Whiting chunk. We were packing up when it bit.

On a side note…had a huge Spotted Eagle Ray swin through the surf right in front of me. It had to have had a 7’-8’ wing span. Beatiful looking, it didn’t hang around long enough to snap a pick.

Great day. And impressive about the Ray. Never seen one that big haha

What’s your rig set up there? Seems like fairly light mono leader.

The second largest Red was landed with 15lb mono, 50lb mono double drop rig and #2 wire hooks.

Very nice day on the surf! I’m Envious.

Nice Day DP. It must have been those red magic beads that attracted all those fish

Thanks Jack. I don’t rig without them. :sunglasses:

Well done. I’m hoping to get out on the beach this weekend. I hope I have a little bit of the success that you did. I noticed you use J hooks, do you prefer those over circle hooks for surf fishing?

Short leaders, fixed weights, j-hooks are no problem. My small set up is a Eagle Claw 084A #2 j-hook, on my big set up, a 6/0 3x VMC tournament circle. If you are using fish finder rigs don’t use j-hooks. I only carry 4 different hooks in my box. #4, #2 j-hooks and 3/0, 6/0 non offset circles.
