Got bored the other night decided to grab a small bonita out of my bait freezer grab some light tackle and see what sharks are out in the harbor. Threw out a small piece of cut bonita this shark picked it up after soaking for only like 5 mins. Pretty cool just to get up on a whim and drive 5 mins from my house and hook a blacktip and go home LOL. Either way… Here is a quick video. Dont judge me i miss spelled Pflueger at the end of the video LOL.
Growing up on James Island that park was always called Sunrise park wasnt until recently when the city bought it they changed the name. Melton Peter Demetre park. Stupid long name.
It is and always shall be Sunrise park as far as I’m concerned. Nice catch, I might try to throw a little piece of cut bait out there sometime just to see what happens.
Ive never ran into anything over 5 feet out there but still fun! Bring some light tackle and enjoy the fight! Go out there at low tide and stand on the floating dock with a cast net and you can catch all the bait you need!

If you read the stone monument located at the park and read up on it Melton Peter Demetre donated the land to the City of Charleston for use as a park. The gentleman’s donation to the community is honored by naming the park after him. As long as I have fished there numerous people have talked about his generous donation and how great of a man he is. You can call it what you want but the name of the park is Melton Peter Demetre Park and it will still be named that long after we are both gone.

My point is if your FROM James Island it will always be known as Sunrise Park. Thats what we have called it for years.

Doesnt matter what you called it for years, the name of the park is Melton Peter Demetre Park now and forever, the Cooper River Bridge was called that for years, it is now the Ravenel Bridge, if you still want to call it the Cooper River Bridge that is your choice and nobody cares. Like I said you can call the park whatever you want, but Demetre donated that land to the city and the city named it after him in his honor as a condition of his donating the land and it will always be named that hundreds of years fr
Ya’ll talking about Sunrise Park by the Yacht Club?
Sure enough, now Demetre Park, a City of Charleston Park. I have fished there going on 3 years now sometimes weekly and have only heard a handful of people in the neighborhood still refer to it as Sunrise Park.
All im saying is I was born and raised on James Island that spot will always be sunrise park to me. Once the city got ahold of it EVERYBODY goes there now. Cant even get a decent spot on the dock on the weekend anymore. I hardly ever fish there anymore, we used to go out and Shark Fish till 1-2 in the morning… now the city police patrol there and will kick you out after 8:30. When it was Sunrise Park there was No Gate… No Time limit to fish and No worries. RIP Sunrise Park. Every time i post on here there is at least ONE person who wants to say something… LOL Its like high school for adults!
Most everyone knows it as Demetre Park now, there might be a few people who refer to it as Sunrise from the old days, but you wont hear that for very much longer as people get accustomed to it as a Melton P Demetre Park. Obviously has turned into a hot fishing spot judging by the amount of posts on the park, everyone goes there because it has some of the best views in all of Charleston and its seems to be a place to fish now.
