Dparker recommended the surecatch spider weights. Went on line and the price looks great but i wonder about it getting caught on structure. Now, commonsense tells me that there isnt much structure that i can get caught on by casting out but i wanted to get the opinion of some people who’ve used them. How well do the hold in the current?
I’ve never used them, but I would be careful about assuming there is no structure around the beaches. I have been snagged many a time on rocks and oyster beds that aren’t visible at high tide if at all. I even got snagged on some poor soul’s boat once. The only reason I knew was because I was able to break free and came back with a piece of the trim!
It’s all we use, they are great. Message him on Facebook for different sizes and varieties.
I use 4 oz for casted, 8-16oz for my Mak 15, and 32oz for my Mak 50. ( This is inlet fishing - strong currents )
4-8 oz would most likely be plenty for beach front
IF you are just casting - 4 oz is perfect.
Thanks Lucid. Ill primarily fishing beach front thats why i mentioned about there not being much structure. I can image what youll snag on some of the creeks and channels.
Iggy i was looking at the 4-5.5 weights and think ill get a couple of both. I msged rhe requium page on facebook inquiring about the requium fishing shirts for protection. Can you PM me here or Msg me on Facebook and let me know about pricing and sizes.
I second what Dan says, they are great. One thing I will mention is in most cases you will only need them while fishing inlets where the current is strong, usually 3-6oz pyramids are fine for beach front casting. They certainly will only help though so definitely reccomend them.
Thanks for the second imnotfishy. My 6oz holds ok but some days if theres a bit of a breeze, that current gets rough and ive had my weigh end up back on the surf. Im bout to put my order in. Thanks.

? Must have been one of the shark dudes. No big deal. I only use pyramids, to 6oz. If it takes more than that, gots to be nasty! Pyramids work best at the end of the rig, they don’t hold as well on a slider setup using “chunks” of bait on heavy leaders. The bait will lift a pyramid up off the bottom. I guess you’ve tried Sputniks? Great prices on the surecatch weights though.
