Surf 3/22

Kinda wish I had stayed in Charleston for the weekend now. What kind of bait were you using?

Fresh shrimp…always. #4 j-hook, 50lb mono 2-drop rig, 15lb mono main.

What size reel do you use, a 6000 or 7000 I think you said?

I currently use Quantum Boca 50pts. I have several of them and luv-em. Also have 1 60pts only difference is line cap. 50 holds 200yds. or so of 15lb mono.

i like seeing a sharpnose already! i have maybe one surf trip i can make (and thunder chicken hunt) for an extended amount of time and the water temp here is about 65. id def love to see a sand tiger at the end of my line before then.

The Sharpy was a suprise for sure. The water temp is around 55-56 in the sun. Have not seen any bait fish in close, birds dropping down occasionaly a little further out. Can’t Wait for the Whiting, then it will be on. Gonna be another great season.

i saw a recent occasion where some form of bait was out (dolphins and birds diving) around 200 yards from the beach when i was walking around and water temp was high 50 but due to a very busy schedule havent been beach fishing in a while. i have heard that the whiting started hitting in north florida so hopefully charleston isnt far behind. last i saw it was 63 - 65ish where im at so should be soon!

Sounds like the kind of set up I use for shark, but I usually only have one hook in, and I usually use squid. Sometimes i’ll have a crab trap out if i’m on Sullivans island and use fresh crab if i’m catching them.

I have to be really, really, really bored to try to catch sharks. I almost never use cut bait or minnows. Unless the big Specks are around. :-). Then I will cut a Whiting. The one above was buy accident for sure.
