Surf 4/5

Nice work bud. It was so nice on Saturday I dragged myself out to the southside of Folly to see if the whiting had returned yet. you’re absolutely right, they are back baby! Caught 5 over the course of two hours, none were very big but it’s a very good sign. Was wading up to my waste and the water was very bearable, I’d say we are almost in the mid 60s. I cut the first whiting up and through out some strips on a one hook ghost rig. Had a couple hits but wasn’t able to pull anything out, bait was really torn up so I’m thinking a small shark or rays, maybe a bluefish? Anyways, the wait is almost over gentlemen, tight lines to all.

I was at folly on Saturday 4/5 and caught a dozen whiting also, on fresh shrimp pieces and small hooks. This is my second year surf fishing and after this weekend I am officially hooked! Can’t wait for the season to pick up, will be a great one. Tight lines guys

i should build a boat

glad to hear the whiting are getting shallow again, a few other sources corroborate that from the last week in other places.

i dig the beach camo!

I am also glad to see the Whiting. Now I can target some Specks and continue my research on bait presentation for larger Trout in the surf. Won’t be untill the bait fish get back though, but most of you know me buy now, I will go regardless. As the days get longer I will start the weekday afternoon beach trips.

Dparker,

I know you’re kind of the ringleader around here on the forum, what do you typically use as bait for specs? I remember as a kid we used to catch them with springtail grubs, usually silver or white. For live bait, do you just put a mud minnow on a float?

My biggest in the surf are caught with cut Whiting.

Thanks man, cut whiting on a drop rig or do you float it?

Double beeded drop rig. 2-3 oz. on the bottom.

Went out to SI today and only caught 3 small whiting. Slow day.
