I have been checking out back pack coolers for the beach. Looking for a high quality pack that was completely waterproof, tough, could float, great ice retention, and good capacity. Freeing up hands to carry a few rods and making the fisherman very mobile to travel. Been studying up and combing the inter-web for a few days and stumbled upon a killer deal. The RTIC back pack cooler. It looks like it’s a winner. It is a direct contender for the Yeti back pack, but holds allot more than the Yeti. The Yeti runs 300 dollars and doesn’t hold diddly. The RTIC back pack has a great capacity and usually runs 179.00. When I just clicked on the RTIC site it was slashed down to 107 bucks flat. Not sure why it’s so cheep but at 100 bucks I’m taking the risk. No shipping and no tax. I jumped on the tan model vs the darker blue because the lighter color won’t absorb sun as much and it will help to keep it cool. These back packs look like the real deal and at a fraction of the cost coming in at 107.00 vs the 300.00 Yeti. The deal can’t be beat. You guys really need to check them out. They would be great for hunting (have a camo one, island hopping from boat, or storming the beaches all day hunting that big red or an outing with the family. Killer cooler/great deal. Hope you fisho’s are doing well, take care folks. If purchasing do your home work and make sure you are ok with the deal. Check into. Trust but verify that everything is legit. No clue how long the sale will last.
I need to get one of these high end coolers for bait preservation
RTIC is the direct competitor for Yeti. if not mistaken the owner is the brother of Yeti. they had a pissing contest and he started his own business. my son and I have several of the RTIC 30 ounce cups that hold ice or coffee all day. also have several of their coolers and they are great especially for the price. do not think that you can go wrong with this brand. they put sale prices on their site periodically. hope this helps.
hmmm… need to check this out
Anything that pulls drag, right?
Thanks Coolbreeze. I have a buddy that has both the Yeti and RTIC roto molded hard sided coolers. He told me they are pretty much the same except for the name and price. He has had them a long time. Yakgotstuck the soft sided coolers just aren’t going to hold up forever. They use tapes, glues, stitching and fabrics that are more prone to fail, not to mention zippers. The heavy duty waterproof zippers are difficult to open. I have tried them out in various stores and various brands and they all are the same, tough to open. I researched the few back pack coolers out there and the best ones I could come up with were the polar bear at 99.00/ not waterproof and uses zippers. If it rains or comes in contact with water it will get heavy, but the reviews were very good. The canyon looked very promising and was in the 100-120 range and is a dry bag style closure that is waterproof and floats, with no zippers to fail. It came with a no questions asked lifetime warranty and I spoke with them on the phone and the customer service was excellent. He told me if anything went wrong snap a pic and send it to them and they would replace the cooler without question. I would have pulled the trigger on that one if the 25 quart capacity was better. Most people 25 quarts is plenty for a day trip. I lug a fair amount of beer because where I fish I don’t need to drive home. I spend the night. I pack a bunch of water for the dog, lunch, bait etc. So I need a fairly large capacity and I couldn’t get past the 25 quart canyon even with the lifetime warranty. Again 25 quarts is enough for most people. Another great looking option is the Ice mule back pack cooler. Killer reviews, waterproof, floats and it is the same as the Canyon. A well insulated dry bag that runs in the 100-120 range. No zippers. Ice mule has plenty of models to choose from big to small. If I recall the warranty wasn’t great but reviews were excellent. One thing to consider is the capacities are over rated by most of the companies. I looked at the Yeti one and the capacity
I just bought all these from rtic shipped to the house for 52$. I have all rtic products and have several of their soft coolers and hard coolers. If yetis quality is 10/10 rtic is a 9.5/10. I have used both and yeti is slightly better but not by much. It’s not worth tripke the price for yeti vs rtic.
Stevo got a few pics for ya. The back pack looks well made, good straight lines with heavy duty materials. It has thick insulation and reinforeced stiching and handles. The capacities and ice retention times are over exagerated on most of them because they don’t take real world situations into account, like someone going in and out of them all day and they fill them with “all” ice in a controlled environment to reach unrealistic numbers. If it holds ice for a day I will be good. Capacity wise it is adequate looking like it will easily hold about 14 12ou cans, plenty of ice, a six of water and some bait and sandwiches. I hope you and your family are doing well and look forward to you putting a whooping on us again this year:smiley: Take care.
About 20 inches high and 14 wide. Time will only tell if she holds up, but at a third the price of the yeti and much better capacity, I’m willing to give it a shot. Yeti took them to court because the products they were putting out appeared to be very similar. They agreed to make some changes.
I’ve had a soft pack 20 for about 3 years and it’s been great. I use it every day to ice down beer at the house. I take it hunting, fishing, camping. It has held up really well and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another.
Yes runbabyrun we are doing well thank you hope you are too. Ive all ready begun preping and I have everything ready for this season. I’m going to have to cut back this year on how many rods I have out from 4 to 1 or 2. I need to relax my neck more when I’m out there and not keep having to get up and re bait every 2 seconds. Im also going to start going to the Mt pleasant pier and try to get some sheepshead head tommorow. They are hard fish for me to catch.
I’m
Here are some better pics of the backpack cooler I found at the Miami Boat Show. It’s very reasonably priced under $60 and will hold plenty of drinks, ice and bait plus it has two side mess pockets. They advertise 24 cans or 15+ bottles and up to 24 hours ice retention. wwwgeckobrands.com
Cooler wars continue… Update. The Engel site is pushing a even better deal. It has a 130.00 high quality back pack cooler slashed down to 60 bucks. It’s 55% off. This cooler is listed on many sites as being one of the best back pack coolers on the market. Coming in at 60.00 it’s a highly affordable option for an excellent quality mobile cooler. The catch is that it is purple:smiley: If you are able to get past the ugly exterior and look inside, you may discover a true gem:smiley: The RTIC cooler I pulled the trigger on holds ice for day’s. I have made a simple inexpensive modification to it that is pretty coooool. I cut up my wife’s yoga mat and put it on top of the ice and beverages that are stored beneath. This allows one to have a separate compartment for sandwiches or what not above that stays dry. It also keeps in all the cool, so you dont have to keep zipping and unzipping. Just unzip and flip the lid open and close as needed and the contents below stay ice cold, boom:smiley:

In my Gecko Brand I don’t use ice. I freeze some of my water bottles and just put my bait, tackle and lunch on top. I do wish it had a separate area/pouch for tackle. It does have a couple of mesh pouches on each side for water bottle size stuff. While it won’t keep my unopened bait completely frozen it does keep everything from thawing out completely. It’s a very comfortable backpack and has plenty of room for everything I usually carry.
Just picked up the pink/purple engel! As both pete and david know/have seen my toes occasionally, im not afraid to have those colors around me haha
excited for it
Grabbed it thanks.
Krylon #2 flat black will fix any heat I take.
“No… it’s okay, I know the way out…”
Can never have to many coolers. My wife has a hundred pair of shoes:smiley: Good to hear from you Papa, you will be the last one laughing when you are the only one holding a cold one on the beach come July/August and for 60 bucks. I filled the RTIC one I got up with water and turned it over for a day and not one drop of water came out of the cooler or zipper. Thanks for the link Bowfinger. Y’all have a nice day:smiley:
Yep i have been busy/took a break from the fishing grind…
im back for it this year though!
