Surf Fishing Float Hooks

Hey guys,
I make a special type of hook that is used for surf fishing. They are used to catch many different types of surf fish. They work so well because you put them on the top of a double drop surf fishing rig and then a regular hook on the bottom so that you can fish in different water columns and have a better chance of catching different types of fish. I have used these hooks along with regular hooks. I caught way more fish of the float hooks than the regular hooks. I am selling these hooks in packs of six. Send me a PM if interested. Price that I am thinking right now is $8.00 plus shipping but prices can be discussed.
(2 ot kahle hooks with orange and white floats)
I can also do special requests if you prefer a different type of hook or possibly color of float.
Thanks

PM if you want a picture of them

Putting that picture on a site like this and someone will steal it. Better get a patent if you don’t want to see it in a store somewhere undercutting your price.

I’m curious what bait you would use with the float hook. Sounds interesting…

Look up 311Pope on YouTube, he shows you how to make them. Its not mind-blowingly difficult.

Just ran across this YouTube on a Gulf fishing forum. What caught my eye is that some feel this setup works well on Pompano in dingier water. Was curious if anyone have tried these at Folly?

I always use orange beaded drop rigs and usually pick up Pomps in the summer months. Although they are bottom feeders, they also are very fast swimmers, moving through in schools rather quickly. In dingier water they my key on colors, orange and pink seem to be good choices, resembling the eggs on Mole crabs. I am sure in certain situations a float rig with orange/pink floats would work okay. Although not sure why you would “float” bait off the bottom targeting bottom feeders. Maybe try and float some live mud minnows or finger Mullet for Specks? Here is a simple, but effective float rig I’ve used in salt and fresh water. Just a simple toothpick cork and what ever size hook you want.

I’ve always used flounder rigs with two hooks and one on a float to stay a little above bottom. Just a toothpick cork. I’ve also used/seen two hook heavy bottom rigs with bright floats at outerbanks. Up there they call them blue fish rigs. Fished just behind breakers or on bar they keep your bait up away from squealer croaker and whiting - if you target the blues.

Particularly if I can do it.

Which I did. Followed 311pope’s video exact, except I used 2/0 bronze kahle since I could not find any stainless. Went to Bogue Inlet NC Tuesday and tried one out on the top drop of a two hook rig and ran a circle on the bottom. Tipped both with a piece of sand flea bite and a piece of shrimp. Caught a 12 inch Pompano on the float hook. Switched all my rigs over to float hooks, but by then the surf started ripping from the storm and the surf was mud. I did notice that my float hooks started showing signs of tooth marks which might have been puffers. Ended our trip one day short because of the storm.

Float hook made a believer of me.

Sometimes for a little color we’ll cut up twister tails. Thread on a piece to the eye hook and it adds any color you want and adds just enough flotation that it hangs better
