Welcome newbie52…by the last of Oct you talking the very last weekend of the month or towards the end of the month? I should be there the next to last and if you want a ride out you are more then welcome to ride on my boat. Its not surf fishing but offshore can be great that time of year. The last weekend I am cooking in the state championship BBQ contest in Columbia, but the next to last is open and I should be there.

Surf fishing should be great then. You can walk down where scott creek flows into the ocean and cast into the breakers. I like to fish right beside any of the groins, the closer the better. I use a seven foot medium action open face spinning outfit. Pass the main line through a sliding clip for a priamid sinker (1oz) tied to a barrel swivel, 12" of mono leader and a 2/0 eagle circle hook. The best bait is shrimp, the fresher the better. Cast near the end of the rocks, keep tension on the line and slowly let the bait move toward you until see it, then cast out again. Many fish will be caught in very shallow water. Once you determine where the strikes are fish this area.
