The fish are biting shrimp like crazy in the surf right now. I went out on the 16th for about three hours. I caught a whiting on about every cast and caught my first jack crevelle. Put the whiting back out on a big circle with wire leader and about fifteen minutes in the drag started screaming. First shark hooked up for about thirty seconds and then line broke. Lesson learned, use a sinker slider with big live bait or the sinker will fray the crap out of your line. When you finally hook jaws he will win. Second hit was a big run on a live whiting but missed the hook. Ended with a 15 lb ray. Ill be taking the kayak and penn senators out next week for the ones that got away…
Cool! was that FB or SI?
Umm, you gonna eat that?
Thousands have died to save my freedom. Only one has died to save my soul!
I agree, the last time I went out I wound up with 20 whiting and a nice flounder.
I need to get out there! Iv’e missed some shark bites lately too. I think I need to let them run longer with a loose drag and that may increase my hookup rate. If you don’t mind me asking what rigs and hook’s were you using for the whiting?
I’m so salt life I sued google earth for giving away all of my fishing spot’s.
I used a bottom rig/ chicken rig i made out of twenty pound mono for the whiting. The hooks used were the smallest i could find in my box. Tiny eagle claw j hooks.
Thank you.
