What’s biting in the surf in beaufort?

We don’t have a surf in Beaufort, just rivers and creeks. If we had a surf then we would have serious issues.

Mostly fish but a few crabs

The catfish are thick this time of year. Go out at dead low tide and use Nathans hot dogs, they love um.

I sure like diggers reply

Just head out hwy21, both Harbor and Hunting islands are excellent places to fish from the beach.

Do you mean the gaffsail catfish

Yes, the reason why you use nathans hot dogs is they have a higher garlic content it drives them crazy, although any premium brand will do.But be careful some of the premium brands only have 7 weiners per pack not 8,which is crazy seeing how hot dog buns come 8 per pack. check out which brands do this, its funny. The fish are excellent tablefare if you catch one lightly flour it and saute it in a non-stick pan in butter, then deglaze it in white wine and reduce till almost gone, at this point add finely chopped tomato, some capers and fresh parsly, then take a few pats of butter and swirl it in pan to thicken sauce.Serve with remaining wine ,i use sauvignon blanc as it pairs well with seafood. Enough talk,IM going fishing-good luck out there Jahem, and save some for us.Tell me how you like recipe.

I hope you guys know you can’t keep any saltwater catfish. Sometimes the jokes go over my head.

They have to be joking, because everyone knows you don’t catch catfish with hotdogs, you use cat food.

On a serious note, what is rather ironic is that down in Florida cat fish are unregulated and I read that a lot are being caught in the surf. I have also read that Sail cats are ok table fare but not so of the hardheads. I suppose the SC prohibition is based on the absence of them and of course they have their place in the Oceanic food chain.
