Went out yesterday knowing good and well that the odds of me catching fish were low. I scouted the beach on thanksgiving and with the NE winds howling and a ripping for days on end and the beach full of piles of marsh grass and the recent full moon the water was mucked up. The real high tides pull all the grass back out when they recede, they DIRTY the water up. I know this and have been down this road many times before and have little to no success with these conditions but with the season winding down figured Id go anyway and give it a shot, Grace needed to get out of the house. I fished from 10 am to 530 pm and gave it all I had and came up short. Seven and a half hours partially out going partially incoming. The water is still fairly warm, bathing suit and t-shirt were adequate as long as its day time. Didnt see a whole lot of bait and was looking for it. I worked it hard, had a great spot that had killer structure, that had proven to be productive many times before.I peppered bars, troughs, holes, cuts , the whole time. It was a light ne wind and bait stuck with 5 oz slight current but workable. We chunked crab and fresh whiting as well. The least productive day of the season 0 reds, and a handful of whiting, nothing was out and nothing was biting in my spot, they just didnt show. I will give it another shot on a day that has better conditions but if it doesnt improve Im calling the season and getting those reels cleaned up for storage, still had a great time with the dog. The new Quantum cabo 60 performed wonderfully and has a great drag from super light to a heavy duty fish stopping 40ld drag.
Thanks Gail, I appreciate it, Ive seen all the good work you do for the vets and wanted to help, but I have no boat, would you ever entertain the idea of putting boots on the beach? I saw how you were looking for more boats for the event and it got me thinking about why not surf fishing ,if it is held in november during the mullet run, Im sure we could help, I know I would be willing to take a crew and think there are others that would love to do so as well . " Boots on the Beach" kind of catchy.
I think June 6 might be appropriate for a “Boots on the Beach” fishing trip. Or maybe the weekend of June 4-5. The 6th is D-Day for any Canadians that didn’t know.

Yes Sir, not my most productive day, the beach changed quit a bit since my last outing, it all looked the same as in the way of cuts and bars yet was very shallow for a long way out consistently being one and a half to two feet for a long ways. The noodles you pointed out were more present just beyond the bar to the left and thats what the bottom looked like as far as the eye could see whether I went left , right, or straight out the ground was nothing but the same structure of noodles and shallow, never seen anything like it, so much structure and no fish biting, the couple of whiting I caught were on the crab halves believe it or not , they got hooked picking the carcass. The new reel feels great thanks for your advice and good luck out there MR. Parker.
