Hey guys. Who makes the best surf spinning reel these days? I have only owned Penns and am considering a new reel after my 8500 from 20 years ago is finally wearing out. It would be used for surf, pier, and from my kayak in saltwater. Thanks for the info,
shimano spheros is an awesome spinning reel. drag system is completely sealed. ive put mine through heck and it’s good to go!
caught plenty of BIG fish on my 6000.

Thanks I’ll check them out.

I have a Penn 7500 Spinfisher I use, works nice. I think any of the Penn’s from the 6000-8000 size would work.
Penn spinfisher v 7000 is a good option for a larger setup. I think the daiwa black and golds are still a real good value and will last a long time. That said if you can just get your old penn serviced it may keep on doing the trick! Either that or get a slightly used one on eBay or wherever. I like the spheros for price but those shimano are bothered by sand and salt more than the slightly less smooth and refined daiwa BGs and Penn SSs. Just my 2cents! Plenty of good reels for reasonable prices out there.
New Penn Spinfisher for surf and larger fish. Bette reels for inshore

Thanks y’all. I love my Penns.

If you like the Penns I would look into the conflict. It has sealed ball bearings and its not too expensive. I have a 2500 and I love it.

new spinfishers are nice, but after buying my shimano stradic ci4+, I am sold, shimano is the way to go.
