Didn’t get out over the weekend, had some time off from the job today though. On the beach 11:30ish, NE wind blowing pretty good, waves and current rippin’ like crazy with the tide high and falling. 8oz on the small rods, 9oz on the big. STILL trying to pull! Hit a new spot, on IOP. Had a very nice deep trough with a good diagonal rip. Not very productive, of course I did not move much. Caught a hand full of Whiting, a pair of slot Black Drum, and one baby. Zero hits on cut bait…
That spot looks great and some beautiful drum, you said the drum would be hitting soon and you were correct as usual, I hope the winds calm down for the weekend sat is ene 10-15, friday and sunday Im seeing light and variable, good for you Mr. Parker
I think I fished that same spot last time I was on IOP. It was right before the storm and the tide and current were nuts. Wonder what it is about that side of the island… I will have to try it again though because those black drum look delicious!
A bad day of fishing beats a good day of work anytime.

I think, IMO of course, If you look at the Inlets and how they dump out, Dewees inlet is narrow and comes out kind of staight, and with a NE wind blowing for a few days, the water runs out fast and makes hard right turn. Breach inlet comes out pointing in the direction of the current and mouth is more open. Lighthouse inlet is open,
Stono inlet mouth is open. The Edisto runs out, splits and runs into Deveaux Bank.
Not saying you won’t experience current at other spots, but with 100’s of hours fishing IOP, I know it don’t take much to make it RIP.
-side note- Black Drum are nasty, smelly and usually full of worms. Maybe a low end slot fish (15"-16"). But the big ones (25"-27"+)…? smelly AND nasty! Oh yeah, and really slimmy.
I’m kidding a little Lucid. I’m not a big fish eater, especially Drum, any of them. I have never had Black Drum might be delicious, they are pretty smelly fish though. Fried Whiting is okay when it’s really fresh. I’ve prepaired Specks several ways, not a fan. Have never kept a Red Drum, some folks say it’s good.
I will keep almost any Pompano, within reason. Around 12"+, it goes in the cooler. I am torn between Pomps and Mahi, as my favorite. And you can never go wrong with fried Flonder. Grouper?..mmmm…yummy too.

I would definitely eat a mess of these!
Love Dolphin, but have to say Grouper, Wahoo and Halibut are my favs. Spanish in the surf , and fresh, fresh broiled bluefish…yum
