How does everyone feel about Suzuki motors? I’m looking at a new 21 ft sea pro. It comes with a 140 Suzuki motor.
I have a 2016 Sea Pro 239cc with a 300 Suzuki and I really like it…
I have an '07 Suzuki DF 150. No complaints. So far only routine maintenance. I flush it after every saltwater outing. I would be more concerned with having a 140 hanging on the back of a 21 foot boat than the brand of said motor hanging on the back.
Used to be Suzuki had one of the better warranties out there, but I’m not up on it any more. I’ve had a couple of Suzuki’s, no complaints and very dependable in my experience.
I agree with fishwater9 on the size, I’d personally want a little more on a 21’
Like a 150 yamaha or 175 suzuki?
I love my 140 on my 18’, but it would be grossly underpowered on a 21’.

They still offer a 6 year warranty.

Power to weight for the Zuke 140 is strong.
If their website numbers are accurate, the Zuke 140 (394 lbs) weighs less than their own Zuke 115 (401 lbs). And, it is a lot lighter than the Yamaha 150 (478 lbs) – delta is 84 lbs sitting on the transom. I bet the Zuke 140 out runs the Yamaha 150. If going up, go up enough to overcome the strong power to weight numbers from the Zuke.

NOT A CHANCE.
THE SUZUKI 140 IS THE WEAKEST 140 ON THE MARKET. IT ONLY PRODUCES ABOUT 128 PHP.
THE YAMAHA 150 PRODUCES 160 PHP
THE SUZUKI 140 ALSO HAS AN OIL COOLER MOUNTED BEHIND THE OIL FILTER. IT MAKES THE OIL FILTER FOR THE 140 MUCH SMALLER CAPACITY THAN THE 115, WHICH ISNT REALLY A BIG DEAL, BUT IT TRAPS WATER IN THE PASSAGES. WHEN IT CORRODES OUT FROM THE INSIDE, AND YOU CANT TELL. YOU CRANK THE MOTOR UP, AND ITS GOT 80PSI OF OIL AND 10 PSI OF WATER. YOU PUMP ALL THE OIL OUT THROUGH THE EXHAUST AND NEVER NO IT UNTIL THE NO OIL ALARM GOES OFF. IM NOT A BIG A FAN OF THE SUZUKIS DUE TO THE CORROSION ISSUES.

AS FOR THE 140 ON A 21, THERE WERE A BUNCH OF THOSE 21 BAY BOATS SOLD WITH 115 YAMAHAS. THEY WOULD TOP OUT AT 38MPH WITH AN AVERAGE LOAD, AND NO T-TOP

Chris V, not arguing… but, wondering, who produces those power numbers. I’ve seen those before but have never seen where they came from. Is there a publication that reports those kinds of tests? If so, I might subscribe.
thanks

I have a 21 Sea Pro on order. Went with the 175 Suzuki. I’ve only run Yamaha in the past…fingers crossed.
I’ve had two Suzuki DF 140’s, one was a 2002 and it lasted 15 years before corrosion got it. All saltwater usage and religiously flushed out. The other is a 2013 and it’s on my boat now. Supposedly the newer motors don’t have the same corrosion issues that the older ones did but it is flushed religiously as well. I have a 21 ft flats boat and it pushes it in the mid 30’s fully loaded and have hit 40 lightly loaded and trimmed up. Plenty fast enough for me. That said, Chris V is right about the corrosion issue, No warning until it’s too late, there’s really no way of knowing that you have an internal corrosion issue. Mine ran fine until it happened on the water. At least it got me back to the hill.
I don’t know about corrosion issues but the DF140 is a little on the weaker side. Makes sense if you look at why Suzuki put an unusual hp rating instead of a standard 25 or 50 increment and then now offer df150. That being said the df140 is a reliable engine and the reality is most new engines of any manufacturer purchased by rec users will outlast the original ownership.
years back, there were some independent dyno tests done.
not sure where to find them, but the 3 motors I remember were

The new 140’s don’t have an oil cooler behind the filter. They haven’t had this for a long time. Don’t believe the suzuki corrosion hype,
They had a couple years of problems on the 140 in like 2003-2004. Yamaha’s corrode as well just google Yamaha exhast issues. . The fact is everything used in salt water deteriorates eventually.
The 140 is a great substiute for a 115 and fills a void in the hp range while weigh less and costing just a little more. With that said the 21 sea pro is heavy and slow based on the performance reports. If your budget will allow it I’d for sure go with the 150 or 175 or even the 200.

Not sure what level of expertise you are basing your opinion on, but Suzuki corrosion is definitely not “HYPE” the corrosion was not limited to the 140hp for 2 years. I work on these motors day in and day out. Suzuki and Honda both corrode from the inside out, across the product line. Yes, the early model 3.3 litre Yamaha f200-f225 had a specific corrosion problem with the muffler adapter plate. That’s 1 motor in the line up with a specific problem, that was fixed. I cant tell you the number of Suzuki and Hondas that we have replaced due to internal corrosion eating a hole through the cylinder wall between the head, head gasket and cylinder wall.

Chris - Any specific model years t
FLUSH,ZINCS,SALTAWAY.
THE ISSUES WE SEE ARE USUALLY BETWEEN THE HEAD, GASKETS, AND BLOCK.
THERE USUALLY ARE NOT ANY WARNING SIGNS, IT WORKS GREAT, THEN IT DOESNT.

Ran a 2008 DF140 on a 20ft SeaFox with T-Top. SeaFox are lighter boats and top speed was 38mph.
Great little engine and it liked running in the upper band but lacked the full power that boat should have had.
Would definitely look at the DF175 for a 21ft Sea Pro. Not just for speed but maneuvering and handling.
