I’ve grown up inshore fishing around Edisto and Charleston but never tried to catch a tarpon. Headed down to my dads place at Edisto next week and gonna try for the Silver King. Anyone know were a good place to try is?
At the mouth of any inlet running from the St. Helena Sound, South Edisto or North Edisto. I’m a novice and have never targeted them until last year but did hook up to one which spit the hook, which explains why I’m a novice, but what a rush for a couple of minutes or so. I would drift and bottom fish live mullet or hadens.
You’ll also catch some sharks doing this, but comes with the territory.
Thanks baycreek…I’ll let you know if we do any good later this week.

Try the flats around Pine Island,I haven’t been there yet this year, watch for the schools of mullet. I’ve been 6 times in the last 2 weeks around Deveaux Bank and Botany and have not seen any tarpon yet,but they have to show up somewhere soon. Hope you have better luck than I’ve been having. Baycreek, you’ll have more than one spit the hook if you keep hooking em,hooking one or jumping one is a pretty big plus for me when fishing for these boys. Good Luck!

Try the bar right near the first can (C) and also up South Edisto River where it turns to the left (inter-coastal waterway). There is a sandbar on the right hand side where I have seen tarpon - fish where it drops into the channel.
Also need to use a long 5’ - 6’ leader - it will help with them throwing the hook.

You gotta love the South Carolina Lowcountry.
Wildcat, last August me and my wife were headed to the beach by boat from Toogoodo and she said she saw a king jump out of the water 1 marker north of ■■■■■■■ Cut, I kinda questioned her (she has seen kings skyrocket live baits) about it but after reading your reply above I bet it was a tarpon. I know that area holds a lot of bait. Thanks for the info. Its a long run for me but I’ve been getting skunked in Botany Bay.

Sounds good Wildcat…thanks for the info. I’ve heard of guys catching them around the sandbars near Otter Island. Probably going to try somewhere near there for a while Saturday. Depending on slow things are, we may just take our efforts over to the beach on otter for a cold one.

Was staying at the campground a week or so ago and had a small whole whiting on around mid day. Out of nowhere comes a legit 6-7 foot Tarpon probably 150 lbs. sailing out of the suds stripping me on my heaver with 30 lb mono. Only lasted about 5 seconds before the fish threw the circle hook and my 6 oz… Gigantic splash made folks up and down the beach come down to me to see what it was. Wish I could have at least fought him for a couple minutes…
