Tarpon

Is July 1st usually the target date for Tarpon to arrive in the sound and Intracoastal? Looking forward to landing some monsters this year!

B. Lance

I know of one caught last week in Port Royal, and others sighted.

Good deal. I’ll have to get out there and set up soon. Thanks Phish!

Had a big tarpon surface alongside my boat in the Port Royal Sound monday afternoon. It must’ve been chasing up the baitfish because they were schooling all over the area. That big boy was easily over 6 ft long & 100+ lbs. The time is now!

Were they daisy chaining? Taking a bunch of kids shark fishing on Friday. Little do they know that we will secretly Tarpon fishing.

Didn’t think they did that here-I thought that was a spawning ritual. Have you ever seen them daisy chaining here? They are usually pretty easy to hook when they daisy chain.

Interestingly enough, years ago when there used to be a lot of schools of MEGA jack crevalle in Charleston Harbor (many 30+ pounds) I saw them daisy chaining once. In that situation they would not hit anything we threw at them.

I have seen them daisy chain but couldn’t get a hook up. Very frustrating to have 25 to 75 poons around the boat and no bites!

Daisy chaining?

That’s when a school of tarpon swim in a slow circle on the surfaced, nose to tail.

Any down towards Daufuskie? We are staying there next week.

BG

Sure, there are tarpon around Daufuskie now. I’d try the mouth of Mungen Creek on the south end, or off the Haig point lighthouse on the north end. Either should have tarpon, pick the side that has the best weather conditions.

Awesome, thanks. It’d probably do me some good to pull the hotspots map out before I head down.

Capt Larry, you don’t know if Verizon has good 3G out there do you? Just found out our place won’t have internet and even on vacation, I’ve got to work when everyone is asleep.

BG

Yes, Verizon has good 3g coverage there.
