Thank Goodness for Redfish!

South to SW winds make the south side of Edisto too dingy for a trout bite, at least for me. Not so the redfish. When we got to the first spot, I could see the nervous water as I cut the motor and let the wind ease us into them. i slipped the anchor over the side and told my three clients, "I think we better fish only two rods at the time. " And with good reason, for as soon as they fired the Berkeley Gulps (3 inch shrimp in natural and new penny, but i don’t think color matters, as long as it’s a Gulp) into the swirls, it was on! Mostly tournament fish (22 7/8th in.) with a few unders, and one over (about 26 in). My clients kept seven for a big cook tonite. Maybe the winds will swing to the east soon and we’ll get on the trout.
Tackle: GLoomis Walleye Series rods, Shimano Stradic reels, 8# Ande Backcountry line, Owner 1/8th ounce ball jigheads.
