The Masters ticket lottery

Have any of y’all ever scored Masters tickets by way of creating and account on their website and having your name drawn? Just curious, seems everyone I know who has entered the “official” lottery has not been lucky enough to win via email announcement. I know you are competing with 500 bizzillion other people from across the globe…Was wondering if there are advantages to entering for all the badges you can get or just entering for practice rounds? I’m a relatively new golf fan and will continue to enter for a practice round badge, no big deal if I don’t get to Augusta, just curious to see how those of you who have gone got your tickets…

Been shutout 12 years in a row in that lottery. I have several friends that play it as well and NONE of us have ever gotten tickets. I wish I could go back to 2000-2003ish when they opened up sales to people for 4 day badges.

Dont give up.

Brother in law got drawn for the drive chip and put so we went with him Sunday. Will be going back for Saturday’s round.as well. The new pro shop is extremely nice and I just hope it won’t cost me as much when I try to walk out of there on Saturday.

I’ll keep entering, all I want to do is walk the course, eat a half dozen Pimento Cheese sandwiches, and drop a Grand on apparel…One place you will never find me is in a crowd, but I could make an exception for that crowd, only for a practice round…

I have no need to go and watch some of my former students compete against each other. I already taught them everything I know.

Well, almost everything.

Only a grand? Saw a foreigner drop over 15k on shirts/sweaters/pullover/hats for his friends back home. I was just buying a $15 Visor.

it would be nice to go on a practice day just to see the place

it’s a real pain when you hear people say, “we had tickets that weren’t used, we didn’t know anyone that wanted to go”

Fritz, I’d be like Al Czervik walking in the Bushwood Pro Shop with Mr. Wang…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jykq0wrIksk

I tried this year for the first time. No luck. Going again this year on friday. Hoping my little girl will make it to the DCP at Augusta so we can spend a Sunday and Monday there one day as a family. Just been able to take my son the past two years.

I went to the practice round Tuesday. It’s always a great time. I usually get to go with work/customers and we have a nice hospitality suite just off of the course with wall-to-wall food/beverage of your choice. A co-worker and I submitted our names for the last few years for the lottery, he got 2 tix last year. We went with work, so he sold his tickets. A broker drove to where he was and picked them up for a G-cash.

It’s amazing what people end up spending in the pro shop. I’m not sure why an average guy thinks he has to spend $400-500 there, but it is easy to do so. I finally bought my father-in-law a shirt against his will and picked up a couple of coozies for the bro-in-laws. That was just under $100, about $80 for the shirt and $10 for a 2 pack of coozies. One of our co-workers SWAG’d an estimate for the pro shop at about $1.5-2M/day.

With the temps this morning any kind of jacket or pullover is selling like hot cakes.

One reason is outside vendors. Before my dad retired, he got lots of perks, one being Masters tickets, so I went a lot. Whichever vendor had us there would tell me “if you see something you want, get it. My boss gave me x number of thousand dollars and I have to spend it all”. Unbelievable.

The lottery seems to be exactly what it is, a lottery…Was talking to a neighbor down the street last night and he said after applying for years, his bud in Seattle won 2 badges for 2 rounds a couple years ago. His friend and his wife flew in and stayed with them and drove over both days. Said his friend said he didn’t care how much it cost to get there, he wasn’t missing it…so there is hope I guess, slim hope…

Anyone recommend the best spot for an early chair placement on a Friday? We went last year on Sunday and set our chair on 18 green, so not really sure where we want this year. Thinking #12 as close to the front as possible, or on 16 where we can see the green and #17 tee box. Anyone with a tip?

We have our standing spots sorted out that we like. #11 tee box, #5 green, #6 tee, #3 green, #13 fairway as you don’t really need to reserve a spot at those to get to see the action. But looking for a good spot to sit while Tiger and other big groups come by that we wouldn’t typically get a front row seat.

Dear lord. I just saw the amount of chairs at #12 this year when Tiger tee’d up. I bet their are 5x more setup there than last year on Sunday. Crazy!

The Tuesday round is fun if you go get a good spot around 16 to watch the guys skip across the pond, especially with big groups of friends. Beer spot is just behind the tee box and can stay in the shade pretty easily.

Last year Cabrera absolutely shanked one from the other side of 15’s green and it landed almost in the middle of our group. A head honcho in the company picked the ball up and the entire crowd with nuts on him. It was quite funny. He dropped it and acted like he never saw it but people later in the day were still pointing at him as the guilty one.

If you’re going to 12 just sit in the bleachers. Much better view than from a chair as you can see 11 approach/chipping/putting, all of 12 and tee shots from 13. From the chair you can only see 12 and tee on 13 from most places. I will probably set my chairs on 16 and sit in the bleachers at 12 Saturday. Also might be wearing my fowl weather gear. Supposed to be blowing 25 and raining off and on

The first time I tried for practice round tickets, I got 4 for Wednesday. That was 2001. A few friends and people from work wanted Masters shirts. I went into the gift shop and put 8 shirts in my basket. I was thinking that was a large purchase, but when I got up to the registers, it was probably the smallest purchase of anyone in there. It is a beautiful place.
