I thought thte same thing as you reason #2, but even so, instead of saying “Hey underage drinking and driving aren’t that bad if you’ve only had a couple beers” or whatever the quote was (i am not taking the time to look it up) why not hold a presser and say you are lifting his suspension because the player has an interest in transferring to get more playing time and you want to help the kid do what’s best for him. I just think it could have been not only handled better, but used as a tool for the program to make a statement.
Agreed he is generally a great tactician with stuff like this, which makes me think he was not aware of the kids transfer, or at least not aware of how serious the kid was. I can’t imagine how something like this happens (another school courting a D1 quaterback for a transfer) without someone on the staff finding out.
this is why I asked about the suspension effecting his transfer status. If it was in the works, then I understand lifting the suspension. But his words were bad.
