The Polar Bear Plunge

Mr. Parker his wife and I headed out for a day of surf fishing on Saturday. We got out at dawn and were greeted with a beautiful sunrise and pushed forward hoping to land a few fish. We rolled to our bait hole looking for some fresh mullet, but spots were what were available, so we bagged enough to get us through the day. We then headed to our fishing hole and the slinging began. We worked a trough up front and the fish bite was very good from the get go. We knew we needed to wait for the tide to go out, so we could wade through the trough and get to a sand bar a little ways off the beach. Once we felt like we could get to the bar, the Polar Bear swim was on. In the water we go:smiley: After reaching the bar we were rewarded with a couple of reds right off the bat. We took advantage of it as long as we could and knew the bite was going to shut down at low tide. We had about a two hour lull. We regrouped enjoyed some lunch together and were hoping the incoming tide would bring in some more fish. As soon as it turned so did our fortune. One fish after the next were landed for about 4 hours. We laid into some monster whiting averaging 12-14 inches, we bagged a fair amount of Black Drum, some weakfish, a couple of rays, blues and 13 reds. The reds were not big, but they were plentiful and we enjoyed the non stop action they provided us. David pulled a double:smiley: The record of 15 would not be broken. The incoming tide pushed us off the bar and we were left with no choice but to head back to shore walking away from a bite that was in full swing. Close but no cigar. A great day of fishing with my buddies. Got some fresh fish for Sunday dinner. The bite is still on, scoop um up while you can. Take care folks:smiley:

Man, you weren’t kidding about taking a plunge. A little chilly?

Actually it wasn’t that bad. Water temp is not STUPID cold yet but the anticipation was definitely there.

Dang, an epic day of catching.
Congrats !
I took the day off Friday and headed out to Folly hoping to find a big red. Strong NE wind at least 15. Forecast was 5mph. Fished 5 hours only catching 1 whiting and 1 small blue. I did get to meet the bull drum king on the beach.

Thank you everyone. Stevo don’t put those rods up yet. Still opportunity and it wouldn’t surprise me if you broke the coveted 50 mark. Your spot is holding some giant fish. We may have a couple of weeks if we are lucky due to the late start of the season and water temps. It’s a long stretch of no fishing, push it as long as you can. Bring us our FIFY:smiley::smiley::smiley::smiley::smiley:

OUTSTANDING post. Thank you
