This April will make 8 years that CharlestonFishing.Com has been serving the boating and fishing community in Charleston. We have learned a lot along the way, but one of the most important things we learned was that the people of Charleston really have some great ideas when it comes to what they need in a fishing website. The original site and the one we have today are vastly different. When I had the idea to start the site, I really just thought I wanted to bring many aspects of fishing in our area into one location on the world wide web. There were several different sites you could go to get information about weather, tides, reports and sea surface temperatures. Back then everyone was on dial up modems and this was and lengthy process of jumping from site to site. We decided if we put it all in one place we would help save ourselves and other anglers time.
I can remember telling my brothers that if we did 400-500 visits a day I felt like we would be doing something. Today I am still amazed that the site averages 5-6 thousand visits a day and the site has become a place for people to meet and exchange information with other anglers. I have also been pleasantly surprised that people have found fishing friends old and new. I’ve had many people come up to me and thank me, telling stories of finding old friends they have not seen in years and have re-connected and fished together. I have also been made aware of many people that have found new friends and fishing partners through the site. We even had a guy reporting losing his dog during the holidays one year and not long after another member responded to say he found the dog and would hold it for the owner. All of this is very rewarding to know the site is having a positive impact on our ever growing fishing community.
All of these things have been made possible by the people that are reading this newsletter and use the site. Without great ■■■■■■■■ suggestions from our users and help from agencies like SCDNR, CCA, and our many sponsors, this site wo
