The Shallow Water Expo

Exposition: a noun according to Webster meaning - “Writing or speech that explains or gives information.” Exposing: a verb according to Webster meaning - “To make known: reveal.” As you open the official program of this past weekends 3rd Annual Shallow Water Exposition the first page you come to is a witty, informative welcome letter written by the expo’s producers/coordinators, Mary and Mark Castlow. The Castlow’s primary objective of the show, exposing shallow water fishing information, is detailed in second paragraph of the letter that reads as follows: “You’ll be surrounded by the experts, both national and near. Plan on picking up all kinds of tips while giving them your ear. Demonstrations abound and casting leads the show. Focus on the learning then add to what you know.”
Knowledge abounds at the shallow water expo. The show is made of legends, such as Lefty Kreh, author of a full library of books on fly fishing, stars like Rick Murphy of Fox TVs Sportsman Adventures, and the local raw talent of successful guides, such as Richard Stuhr, Chad Ferris and Bill Glenn to name a few. Twenty other renowned guides join these guys and captains exposing those with open ears to the essential knowledge required to become successful fisherman.

I have attended the Castlow's Shallow Water Expo for three years now, the first two years as strictly a student and most recently as en exhibitor/student. Each year I have been amazed at how well they are able to combine the local talent and nationally known guys into such an awesome format that allows each presenter to hit on topics they posses the most expertise in. Furthermore, a trend I noticed every year is each presenter makes it a point to attend the classes given by their piers. If the experts are willing to swallow their pride and listening to others in order to gain more knowledge, certainly we should do the same.

The third paragraph of the Castlow’s letter provides their second objective of this years show - "… travel, products, gear, rods, reels
