The skinnee for 01/07/2007 (Bottom Fishing)

Pretty boring for us. BSB’s have infected the ocean. We caught them all day and even on our sabiki’s trying to catch bait. Unfortunately we didn’t get to take any grouper or snapper home with us. We probably caught 10-12 undersized red snapper in the 16" range and a handful of vermillion in addition to our BSB’s. Also, on a sure scamp spot, we couldn’t get past the banded rudderfish. We caught them on every drop to the point where we had to move and try somewhere else.

All in all, a pretty boring day. I can’t wait until trolling heats up.

Bummer. Still beats what most of us were doing.

Skinnee, How deep were you?

If you can’t stand behind our soldiers, try standing in front of them.

Any Mola’s? Been itching to try that mola recipe recently posted, sounds delish. d

looks like you need to book a charter…I know of a 26’ Mako and a local Capt. that can put you on some grouper.

Started out in 105' and worked back in to 90'. Forgot to mention that the current was ripping out in 105'. On anchor, the paddle wheel on the sonar said 1.5 knts. Even 16 oz leads were drifting way back in the current.

I was hoping to snag a baby one with the anchor but didn't see one all day. There was a lot of other life around though. There was bait and birds all the way out.

Seriously, the gags are inside of 80 feet… Good bottom in 65 feet is gonna give you a good shot at some nice gags right now… just gotta have bait big enough to get past the BSB’s… which is easier said than done…

This is not a chawade…

We need total concentwation…

I tried to hale you a few times on 68. We fished from 65’ to 85’ of water and did good. We fished for half a day. Your college friend was on the boat. And we used dead bait for the most part:

9 gags (15lb range)
4 Ars (18,12)
60 Bsb

Its cracker’s fault. He caught the limit he so assuredly boasted of before hand. He made me step it up. No, really we had a good day.

Was the bite early? Were you painting the snapper?

We picked a few gags at each spot. Did not start fishing til 1:30pm. What is painting? I forgot we also caught a red grouper.

Clearly he uses live bait 90% of the time. Even scamps don’t like dead sardines that much.

I fish alot more than you.

An experienced angler can burn a scamp up with half a sardine. Got to jerk it away from the black-green cee bass to give-a-scamp-a-chance.

It is a term usually referring to radar. Military radar specifically. It means a “blip” or that something is showing up on the screen. When you see those “eyebrows” on your Lowrance hanging over the ledges you are painting gags.

Thank you sir…
