It’s been a couple of weeks since I have been out and wasn’t expecting a whole lot with ENE winds at 10-20. They usually don’t produce so well for me. Big waves and strong currents made for a challenging day, but I took a whack at it anyway hoping for the best. I made the long hall out with my gear to my fishing spot, and started rigging my poles with anticipation of the opportunity to try to catch a fish. I opened up my cooler to grab my shrimp and my draw dropped. I made a huge mistake, and knew I would pay dearly for it. I left my shrimp back at the house in the fridge. What heartbreak, and worse, what a idiot:frowning_face: I had no choice but to make my way back, with my head hung in shame. Now I’ve lugged my gear more than I would have liked too, and of coarse its high tide at this point, and I will have to make the trip back out basically walking through the dunes pulling my cart. There wasn’t much beach left. All in all, a total of mile in a half. Finally made it back to my spot and armed with my fresh shrimp the day is now starting, and I am more determined than ever to make all my effort worth while. The very first cast produced an 18 inch trout in about 5 seconds, which normally means the rest of the day will be slow.I didn’t catch anything else for a while, but continued forward. The day ended up being pretty good considering all. The tally ended with about a dozen whiting, one 22 inch lady, two 18 inch trout, 1 21 inch red and a black drum. Fish well earned:smiley: Grace has had her operation and is now the bionic dog, sporting some titanium in her leg. I miss her company on the beach, and eagerly wait for her return. God Bless to all.
Good to hear from you Easy. She somehow tore ligaments in her leg. The method to fix is they cut her open, fracture her bone, and install titanium implant. Sew her back up. All for 3300 dollars. She has about 8 weeks of R&R. The operation though costly and painful has a high success rate. I miss the old gal sitting by my side fishing with me.
That scar and miserable face on Grace are familiar. Mine tore her ACL and ligament repair has very low success rate (for any period of time). Went with the surgery where they cut the end of the bone, realign so the joint functions differently, and then screw it back together. ACL is no longer needed. She’s also tearing her Achilles on the other leg and no repair for that so her ball chasing days are limited to swimming now! She used to jump in air to catch ball a lot and the landings over the years (8) did all that damage. My advice to others, keep the ball on ground level for fetch!
wow good day haha. I actually just got back myself. Pretty slow day. Started off with a small lady fish right away. few whiting short time later, then about a 16 inch sharp nose to finish it off… then a lot of waiting and fighting the current haha.
Thank you everyone for your replies. DownLow Grace had the same surgery your talking about, you did a better job of explaining. I too played allot of ball with her trying to keep her in shape. The operation I was told is the most common surgery preformed by the Doctor and she said is very common, particularly in labs. She also said it has a 50% chance of occurring on the other leg:frowning_face: There was a less expensive one I have heard about, yet not as successful. With her being 6 and still having allot left to give, we had to bite it off. Hopefully she will rebound and be able to restore some quality of life and hit the beach with me once again. I have faith, our days fishing are not over.
Looks like a good day for you. I was thinking about going fishing that day but the winds made me decide to spend a lazy day at home. After this post I’m thinking maybe I should have went. But when I would of been in the middle of fishing, my girlfriends grandpa had a fall. So I guess it was best we didn’t go fishing.
Won’t be long until Grace is back at it with you. I know that you and her are looking forward to that day.
Pete, glad to hear Grace is doing well after the surgery, should see a difference after all that. Even though she is a trooper and never quits when she is out with you. Might be harder to keep those bonito carcasses away from her now #128521;.
Dont mean to laugh at your story, but this is something that would happen to me. Except I wouldn’t catch AS many fish on the return lol. Wishing Grace a healthy, speedy recovery!
