Hey All. I’m a local (transplant for 2 years now)… Has anyone ever fished the washout. I don’t usually see people talking about it nor see anyone when I drive by. I typically avoid that area. I’m taking the kids and some friends from church fishing and thought that would be a good place for the wives to hangout since they have the covered deck and rinse off station. We will be going this Thursday night from 6pm to 11pm. I’d like to land some 4 - 6 foot sharks. Am I wasting my time going there? Would appreciate any ■■■■■■■■ or tips for locations for better action if you wouldn’t mind sending me a PM. Casting baits only. No kayak. Thanks! - Travis
transplant for 2yrs dont make a local. washout is a surfing area so thats why no one fishes there much. could fish the E of the washout one block, there is a bathroom and shower station there but no covered area. there is probably as good as anywhere else for some medium shark action during those hours.
Ha… just meant I live here locally and not just a visiting tourist (btw…how long must one live in an area to called a local?)
I know that’s the surf spot, but I"ve been there a couple times after 6pm and haven’t seen a soul in site. I wasn’t aware of the spot you mention having a bathroom, so that might be a hit. I will check it out. Thanks!

I lived here for 29 years and most of the “locals” don’t consider me one of them.

It is an easy to do the Math. Day you are born + location =Local. You must have a valid Birth Certificate.
Lived here for 45 years…Local! Yeah fishing around surfers can be a bad move. I’m one of them when i’m not fishing. Have been for 35 years. Most of the guys are Ok, but that could turn ugly quick. the washout is the best break on the beach and is usually crowded even on a small wave day. There are lots of beach to fish and this probably isn’t a good choice. Try 6th st west. deep gully at high tide, done very well there. My wife caught a 24" black drum there last summer. Also west end past the park is a good place for sharks. Go down to where the beach begins to turn and fish couple hours before dark into the night. Fresh cut baits nothing frozen.
Well Native is 3rd generation, so local I would say 25 years of living here or born here and live here. If you go to the one just passed the wash out it is the closest access to the beach with a shower where you can shark fish. I swam right next to there today and there is a series of sand bars and troughs. The first trough form the high tide line is about 30 to 50ft its about 20ft wide, the second sand bar is about 25 to 35ft wide and then the trough behind it is about 50ft wide the third sandbar went out about75 100ft. The troughs where the deepest by the rocks and there was a washed out section in the middle which is where the water goes in and out. Thursday night high tide is close to 10pm so if you fish from 6 to 11 you will be in a good tide for surf fishing though the currents might be strong sometimes they are close to a full moon, but there wasn’t much current today. Fresh bait is best so get fresh shrimp and catch something and throw it out on a shark leader, fresh large mullet, whiting, croaker, blue fish, ladyfish are all great baits cut or live, cut up stingray works good because it is harder to get off the hook. If you fish there for sharks just cast as far as you can and check your bait every 10 minutes because you will get picked clean by small fish.
Thanks for the info all! Good info 40inchreds…
I guess if I get me one of those SC state flag decals that say NATIVE then I can be a local I will submit the new change in the meaning of the word Local to Webster
But seriously appreciate the tips! - Travis
