The window of opportunity

I hit the beach solo Saturday. Upon arrival I noticed hundreds of birds hanging out and figured they had a reason for being there. I dropped bait in the water, and not even a bite for three hours. I was stumped and couldn’t for the best of me figure out where the fish were. I saw no activity, and no bait in sight. I kept pushing forward and soon massive bait pods began to appear later in the day. They were running down the beach just a couple of yards off the sand. At this point I casted into them hoping for the best. The bite lit up and lasted for an hour and 45 minutes, and was pretty much done. They hit on strips of a big fresh blue fish that I also caught in the bait pods. I had several shark runs that peeled off some line but my red rigs were no match:frowning_face: I ended getting 7 reds with a few of them being decent, most were 25-30 inches. I think I could have landed a few more, but a giant ray locked me up in a battle for about a half hour, and he proved to be quite the adversary. He put my 60 size cabo’s to the test. My St. Croix rods were to the breaking point, but were just enough to get the beast to the beach. He had about 3 and a half- four foot wing span. Holy molly. All in all a great day, glad I kept at it and wasn’t discouraged by the hours of not even a nibble. One thing is for certain, that conditions always change and if you are patient, and are willing to wait it out, your whole day can turn in the blink of an eye. Grace is healing and is getting stronger every day. I’m hoping she will be able to join me before the winter. Take care folks and good luck:smiley:

When you see “Old Glory” waving in the breeze, know that it is the dying breaths of our fallen hero’s that makes it wave.

Thank you Sir:smiley:

Another excellent day Pete. 7 reds of any size in a day is impressive. We went Sunday morning to the IOP, incoming tide. Nice deep trough that emptied into the ocean. It looked very promising Only managed about 12 small whiting, 2 blues and a lady fish. Strong north wind and hard running current.
Your posts are always interesting to me. Keep 'em coming !
