Come down to Edisto today fished for awhile and made it two the house to find out that someone had taken my wife friends’ pocket book out of her car and my eight year olds daughters best friends’ bicycle. This makes me so mad I have been coming hear since I was little and never had any problems here.

That sucks and I hear you my friend. I remember the days when you didn’t have to lock anything at Edisto and unfortunately as great as the island still is those days are long gone. I’ve been visiting all my life and have property there now and as hard as it is for me to do, I’ve learned to lock my condo, my car and bikes when visiting. Unfortunate and sorry for your incident.
i live here and have almost come to a point where I am going to start taking my keys out of my car… someone stole my aunt’s sunfish hull right out from in front of her house the other day. It’s just sad that this bad element is getting into the last real family beach around.

Yes I will be locking the condo and the rods will be in the lock box from now on. What really does not make sense is that our condo is in Wyndam and have left bikes and boat with rods unlocked for while we were not there. We found the the pocket book on the edge of the woods with only the cash gone. I have been riding around looking for the bike, but have not seen it. If any one see’s a unusal person riding a 20" girls purple bike post it please.
My wife just ran in the door and said she found the bike just went and picked it up little girl is happy again.

That’s sad.
Chances are the thiefs are kids in the next condo or around the block. Never had a problem at Edisto, but have had problems at some of the other beaches up and down our coast. Everytime it has been at the hands of mischevious kids. Had an entire cooler (48 quart) that took missing one night. OBTW it was full of beer and ice. Guy next door saw the kids that took it and followed them. (they didn’t go far) He calls the law and they find the kids consuming my beer. Oldest kid is 16. Parents get involved and they are mad at me for “Leaving beer where their kids can get into it”. Now it’s my fault!!
So my point is…How dare you leave a pocketbook and bicycle where they would be tempted.
Glad the child got her bicycle back!!!
Wow, haven’t heard of such problems at Edisto. Have been coming down for the past twenty years and havent had a problem (yet). Guess Ill have to lock stuff up like I would anywhere else next trip.

If I were a betting man, the increase in crime is due to crack (the kind you smoke). Addicts will steal anything to sell for cash. Changing demographics don’t help, either.
Three kids in a Red Chevy S-10 with a Confederate flag in the bed took some crabbing equipment from my pickup at the bridge at the Old Post Office bridge while I was throwing a cast net down on the waterway. No one else stopped at the side road so this is a sure bet it was them.
It was some local kids due to the shape of the truck.
Im sure they would not be hard to find if they were heading to the island. Good luck!
I had a couple of rods and a tackle box taken from my boat one night in front of my house a couple of years ago. That was really disappointing.
Just trying to learn every bit I can about saltwater fishing…
Posting on a message board all the time doesn’t make you smart. Frankly, it just means you probably need to get a life.
The cost for replacement won’t be over twenty dollars for a new net and couple of new baskets but the general princple behind this is what gets me. I figure they saw my Georgia tag and thought what could he do about it. What kills me is it wouldn’t be hard to recognize the truck with the flag and no mufflers. Some peoples Kids:clown_face:It would be a real hoot if someone were to go up to them and mention their knowledge of what they did.
They would rack their little brains trying to figure out how someone else knew about it.
I saw that same truck which you described with the confederate flag flying above the bed on Friday evening. That is the first time I have seen it. It may be a local boy, but I live here and it was the first time I have seen such a vehicle riding on Palmetto Blvd.
Another note…kids ride bicycles on Peter’s Point Road and it leads directly to where your vehicle was parked on Store Creek. That is another possible conclusion.
Hope that you will find the theif, but not likely that will happen.

i saw that truck too brad…as far as i know it’s not a local.

I also saw that truck on Palmetto blvd a week or so ago. Never seen it before. If it a local I don’t know them.
I parked on the East side of the bridge near the Serpentarium. I was down the path at the waters edge when they parked next to my truck and walked down to where I was. They were there for maybe twenty minutes before they left. I never saw the tag but figured due to their ages and the shape of the truck they might be local. All this happened August 14 around 11:00AM.
I left the island Monday and thought I would warn all on the forum that lived at EB about the bunch. I enjoyed my stay just the same and look forward to my next visit. I have been coming to Edisto since long before Whaley’s store closed. I’m originally from Aiken and have always thought of Edisto as the only beach in South Carolina except for that short stent at high school graduation.![]()
On a lighter note I finally made it to Whaley’s again. My father, myself and my two nieces were able to have a tournament to end all tournamets at the pool table. A good time was had by all. Seems they are teaching my older niece how to play pool very well at Tennssee University.![]()
During the summer we have alot of rogues. Everytime someone has been caught for stealing they have been from out of town, uncontrolled teenagers. I know the truck you’re talking about comes down every year for one week. Maybe they’ll grow out of it or go to jail.

Ouch… Never knew there was any trouble out of the football team:roll_eyes: I know in the early 80’s ya might have had some hell raising from jr/sr weekend:smiley:
Is Edisto still a popular spot for Jr/Sr? Sorry for off topic.
I do hope you catch your thief. That’s just plain B.S.
