No, once they got a certain size, they were channel bass. Spottail are smaller

My daddy would have called that one a stag bass. They go from puppy drum, to spot tails, to channel bass, then to stag. That’s a stag!

Wowzers!.!.!.!.!.!
What a beauty!!!
What a beaut!
WOW!!!
All the gechee boys in the low country call them spottail bass. Size doesn’t change what they were called. Rednecks from North Carolina call the small ones puppy drum, and the big ones red drum. Snowbirds from Florida call them redfish, and the Cajuns from Louisiana have some French name that I couldn’t pronounce anyway. They’ll always be spottails to me. I see that the water temperature has jumped back to the mid 50’s. Those big boys will be coming in close in the surf, and that’s as much fun as you can have with your clothes on!! I like October best, but April can be right sporty, and you might see some bow candy cruising around while you’re at it. Bring on the warm weather. Nice job on the early arrival.

I believe I remember you saying you fish off of one of the beaches. My question is do you cast far out and let sit and wait? Are you relying on that smell?
yes patton, the general strategy is to cast out
