After braving the morning wind and massive swells taking a skiff from spinners cove all the way to the big pool, I limited out by 12:00. Had to find a cove to block the wind but caught everything on boards. Included were a 6#, 8# and 9#. Marked several big fish but hard to keep the shorts off small herring. If you can find dollar bill size bait the big bite should still be good.
Where abouts are guys finding the schooling fish? Thinking about either trying cut bait fishing or possibly pulling artificials this weekend.

The ones I caught last week were near the elbow. Went out this afternoon and they were nowhere to be found up there. With the current water conditions I think they can be pretty much anywhere they want. We caught some short ones near Susie Ebert on Monday afternoon and lost a couple that probably would have been keepers.
So have they mostly moved back to the main lake now or is anyone still having luck back up the gap towards dreher and crystal lake? I had thought about trying Hollow Creek back towards main lake.

Caught some last weekend in Crystal Lake close to the bridge near the island. One was very decent (15-18lbs) but put him back to get a little bigger! Caught several more 21-25 inches too. But it was really windy too. Had enough of the wind!

Woulda did that too on Saturday if I wouldn’t have left it @ home. Hell I gotta get a lot of things to properly set up on my boat for striper. Like some bars to mount rod holders to fit in my rocket launchers because I’m not drilling holes in my gunnels. I went Saturday with artificials and live bait. Anchored in the back of Bear Creek in 20’ of water. Had 3 or 4 short strikes and got 3 shorts in the boat. Some, SUPER SHORT!! Just had 2 down rods and 2 free lines on bobbers out.

Why wouldn’t you drill holes in your gunnels? Obviously you would want to make sure you placed them in the right spot the first time but you could see where other boats have placed them just for added confidence. You can patch or fill in screw holes with fiberglass filler and never know they were there. Get Happy Bob to fix you up with a rod holder rack that mounts in any stand up rod holders in your transom. If you get the Duo Pro Driftmaster rod holders, you can actually put two rods in each rod holder for cut bait fishing, no problem… You can also cut your bow rail and bolt on an aluminum extension off the front of your boat for a trolling motor mount. I had to move my front cleat to one side, but no big deal… All of these mods are completely reversible if you choose to sell it later. I have a 21 ft Deep V hull and probably had the same reservations that you have when I bought my new boat…Go for it, you will love it even more… Get you some “mule tape” for anchor rope and you can put 600 ft in half of a 5 gallon bucket. You need to set 2 anchors to keep your boat from moving to fish cut bait.

If you’ve had fun catching fish on the transom bait, you are welcome…
I’ve spent about 85% of my life’s wages on fishing, the rest I just wasted…
You will have a hard time striper fishing if you don’t get serious!

Just get you some drift master tubes that slide down into the gunnel rod holders that let you mount 2 drift master mount on top. You will double your rod holders then. You can have 8 out the sides and probably 2 straight back. 10 rods should be plenty. Nothing to it.

As someone who drilled too many holes in a boat and paid to have them fixed I would agree with the driftmaster option. If you have two flush mounts on each side you can put a two rod driftmaster in each one. I would add more flush mounts before drilling the holes. Fish it for a year that way and then you will know if you want to drill the holes.

That’s why I always have boats at least 25 years old. I drill and hack whatever suits my needs. I couldn’t deploy my TM so I got out the saw and hacked a chunk of the bow rail out. Money also plays a part in 25 year old boat thing too. My boat officially hit 30 years old this year.

I disagree … our Sea Pro 2100cc can go offshore and catch Amberjacks, Mahi, Blackfin, Yellowfin, ALL of the Snappers, Sailfish, and even Swordfish … Can also head Inshore and catch Redfish, Snook, Trout, and Black Drum … Can also take her super skinny and gig Flounder and Sheepshead …
Then all I have to do is hose her off and dump her into Lake Murray … without changing a single thing … and catch Stripers for days …
That all said, don’t really need but one anchor, four Group 29 batteries, two cast nets, and no genset/lights (unless you’re gigging) …
You WILL need more than 12 rod holders (we have 9 on each side, 9 across the back, two on the console (not including rod holders), and one on the bow) … We have three bait tanks - two 25 Gallon Graylines and one 50 gallon G&M … We have two home bait tanks (the garage tank is 275 gallons and the basement tank is 500 gallons)
So if you really want to you can use one boat for all three bodies of water …
… it’s my Wife’s fault we HAVE to fish !!!
