Thursday and Friday

I always try and keep track of wind/weather/solunar/time of year to predict good fishing. Everything is pointing towards epic fishing this Thursday and Friday. I won’t be out till Friday. If anyone goes out Thursday let me know if my prediction is correct. I actually think Thursday will be the best day with the new moon and less boat traffic.

I will most likely fish on Thursday. I am just trying to decide where I should go. I was thinking maybe Dreher but it might be muddy after all the rain. Not sure about down lake either. That seemed to shut down for me ever since the water temps started dropping a couple of weeks ago.

Anyone care to share any thoughts?

Was planning on going to the Hill tomorrow, now I don’t know, might come down to murry!

Thursday’s a golf day but planning on going Friday AM. With the SW and W flows predicted for Wednesday and Thursday we’re going to concentrate on Ballentine Creek and that general area. Maybe water temps will have rebounded a little by then.

You pulling bait or throwing artificials? It was tough with artificials yesterday around Dreher, but I’d been under weather and haven’t fished in a week or so. I never do good with a lay off like that.

Tom, your prediction may be right on. A friend of mine called me this am at 7:45 with 5 keepers, 2 over 10 lbs. His best morning of the year. Sorry bout the lack of details , but I don’t like to post details of other people’s trips.

Good to know tomorrow should be even better!!

Funny thing about stripers, no matter how much I think I know they will completely stump me at times. I’ve gone out when I thought conditions would be ideal and get skunked. Only thing that seems to hold true for the most part is a strong NE wind on the back side of a cold front will shut them down.

I may do a little of both. Many times I’ll have a herring or two out while throwing.
How was the water up there? Muddy? Cloudy? What temp?

Thanks

67ish yesterday afternoon…more stained by the day. Church looked like Santee. Very fishable.

What time you heading out?

I’ll be out tomorrow afternoon and prolly fish late friday night or saturday morning. I still have yet to have much luck with casting artificials, so I will be trolling herring

Life’s too short not to fish

Surface temp was 59 at the dam this morning and warmed to 63 at lunch. Saw a nice school of herring move through but no stripers. Talked to a guide that said the fish are very scattered and not as shallow as they were. He said he went up to beaverdam and it was very muddy. I guess opening up the flood gates at greenwood is pushing the mudline down pretty far.

SteelyTom,

They still coming to the surface to hit bait? or staying lower?

Got a text earlier from a friend that had Zack Brown and party out this morning and they got 15 keepers.

Tom you need to start your own striper physic hot line.

I’d like to be on the water no later than 7am.
I just took a ride (by truck) up to Dreher. Water looked pretty good. At this point I think I’ll probably fish Crystal Lake tomorrow.
I feel that side of Dreher would be protected from the mud coming down from Greenwood.
I’ll let y’all know how it goes.

I need a day off and the weather is looking really good tomorrow. I think I’m going to head out there too.

Putting in at the dam are ya? Wouldn’t have anything to do with all of this “inside” info you’ve been hearing would it? Now you’ve got me re-thinking Crystal Lake - lol.
What the heck. I’ll stick with Crystal and we can compare notes tomorrow. Deal?
Good luck

I didnt see anything but herring on the surface. I havent fished Murray in almost 3 weeks. Went with Murraymaker to Hartwell two weeks ago and got grounded for coming home late, lol.

Tim, I talked to him today. He was coming off the lake when I was down there. He didn’t even know who Zack Brown was. I was shocked hear he puts 30 dozen herring in a 30g Vest tank. Water was as dirty as I’ve ever seen a tank but the bait looked good.

I think he has a 50 gal too…He’ll put in early in the am and load up with a ton of bait and then throw them out a dozen at a time and “live chum” when he marks fish. It’s not for me, but it does get them going.

Jack, I pretty much always put in at the dam this time of year and just run from there even if I’m going to fish up the lake a bit. Just easy to buy the bait right there and a short ride from the ramp to the house to when I’m done. I’ll check with you out there tomorrow.

BTW, we just got back from a late dinner at Liberty Tap Room. We had a table right near the water and there was herring on the surface near the docks right before dark.

How was it?

I only had a cheeseburger and it wasn’t anything special, but not bad at all. Pretty big burger with a baked potato was about $8+, which I thought was very reasonable considering the location. Wife had some she crab soup she said was good. I don’t think their food prices are any higher than any of the other locations. I’m not sure about the craft beers, but domestic pints were about $3.

They really did a great job on that place with plenty of outdoor seating on the decks. We had a table right near the water and were there as the sun was setting and it was a great atmosphere.
