TIGERS #4 in AP POLL!...

Why?

Because our defense isn’t as good as we thought?

I don’t see anyone making excuses. It is what it is, our offense looks pretty decent but defense has taken a step backwards… No one’s denying that.

… but please recognize that Clemson isn’t playing for a national title just yet. Let’s keep things realistic here.

SC’s defense will be fine as they get experience, just not dominant like the past few years. I really think the drop-off is going to be more of a difference in Johnson and Ward manifesting itself, whereas the talent gap covered some of the shortcomings in coaching ability last season.

The offense seems to be better balanced than in the past few years.

While it is nice to see Clemson getting some love and respect in the National media and Dabo getting a little love for the hard work he’s done in the back of every Clemson fan is that little feeling of when “IT” is going to happen. Based on what I’ve seen, I don’t think Clemson is a #3 team, top 10 yes. Lots of football yet to be played.

I hate all the NC talk coming out, just makes for a big letdown later if something happens to Boyd, Watkins, McDowell or any other key players.

Clemson’s defense is much improved over a year ago but, still has a long way to go to be considered dominant. The comparison between SC and Clemson on defense can be looked at in the number of offensive possessions UGA had. The yards gained were very similar but Murray had a lot more touches against Clemson than SC. At present, I’d say Clemson was slightly better than SC based on that statistic, though not enough to really matter.

In all seriousness, the two state teams may be as

Clemson already needs a week off after 2 games? I guess SC State roughed them up a bit more then it appeared. Are the players tired?

VT must have roughed up Alabama after the first game by that stupid logic. Stanford must have been roughed up by practice as well.

I see what your saying, but sure I agree with it. But I do understand. The reason I have a tough time with it is that is a drive starts on the 10 yard line and stops on the other 10, turn over on downs. that 90 yards on 1 possession. then the offense goes 3 and out. punt to the 50. now they only have 50 to go. say they go 40 and turn over on downs. so they 2 possessions. 1 for 90 yards. 1 for 40 yards. results are the same. why does the number of possession matter? the number of yards given up and the score matter.

Know you were being sarcastic but SC State actually delivered some huge hits in the game. Knocked the wind out of Boyd and gave Rod McDowell a concussion.

fritz has been called worst than the “I” word.

beside we all know when a bye week happens st a result of a schedule that is very tough to come up with. And I would bet most coaches do not want a bye early in the season. but it happens

Possession and tempo offenses equate to more yards gained due to the time the offense has the ball and pace they play. Field position is part of it no matter the style played. Not sure what you are saying on the starting point, that is an ebb and flow. UGA had some bad starting positions against CU, same with USC, that is a wash. You don’t think that if UGA had gotten the ball 5/6 more times against USC they wouldn’t have broken the 700yd mark on offense? I do, the defense was spent in the 3rd and reeling in the 4th. They had no need for high tempo, only to burn and control the clock, the chickens were beaten.

Either he had a UGA jersey on in the second half or he’s out shopping for one now.

Because of the early start to the season this year most teams have 2 off weeks instead of one for the season so they having to be taken earlier than normal. I’m assuming Clemson finally did some planning and placed their’s prior to the 2 Thursday night games and placed an FCS opponent before the Carolina game.
