Wow! Looks like a great time! I can’t wait to make my way around and start snatching fish like that!
wow! phin, your a class act. a deserving world record holder. im glad you ate it and i hope you got to share it with people you love. congrats!
Phin, if the SC DNR approved it as a state record then that means it was weighed on a certified scale and properly documented/identified as a hogfish and a state record which should hold enough for a world record. thats a great catch either way, keep us updated

Shouldn’t be any problem with the weight. Day after catch, weight was 21-15 certified. 9 hours after that, it was 21-14 on DNR’s scale. Fish normally lose a couple ozs per day; sometimes up to a pound. It probably was 22 even or more when caught. Current IGFA record is 21-6. It’s just paperwork and going through the process that keeps me from saying it’s a done deal. Either way, I am really happy to have caught the fish of a lifetime.

when i caught mine it didnt even cross my mind that it could be a state record, i treated it like another fish i was about to clean (almost did too). But i wrapped it up in a plastic trash bag and backed em on ice over night and he didnt lose a bit. when you think about how long that fish stayed in a fish box or what he threw up once you put him in there im sure he did weigh 22 or better but thats part of the game too ya know. when do you think you will find out? i knwo it takes weeks just to get it official for a state, could only imagine a world

IGFA will be at least 60 days from catch.
For the state, I believe the only thing left is the paperwork sent to Columbia and then her Excellency’s signiture. This will be her 3rd or 4th state record signing I think. They said Chris’ snowy in January was her first.
I have some good equipment, but I still am not that good of a fisherman- especially compared to guys I learned from. Reason stands that these fisheries are doing pretty well right now.

So you made the news again…
I heard you had a really nice visor on during the TV interview.

Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!
News 4 got me while I was checking out the Freeman 33 yesterday.
Here’s what ABC News 4 put on last night as a “break from high school football.” http://www.abcnews4.com/video?clipId=6285503&topVideoCatNo=189728&autoStart=true
I talked a little about the closures and how/why they impact local businesses like Freeman Boatworks as well. They said they’d air some of that tonight.
Scoutin, your visor happened to be the only one in my truck yesterday. Don’t get too carried away.

All kidding aside you did good in the interview. Glad one of our local boat builders got some TV time.
We you taking me to catch one? I have others means of getting them too.

Looks like I’ve got to upgrade to photobucket pro.
Monthly bandwidth exploded, and I haven’t yet posted any epic pics from my trip on the Freeman 33 yesterday.

Nice write-up in the Jan issue of Saltwater Sportsman on Phin’s catch
“Never argue with an idiot…he will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.”
Check out the pix on spearitcharters.com in the photo area, 1st pic #2 guy is me with a 21 lber and a couple of other buds with 20 lbers. These were taken not far offshore from Wilmington NC. We saw bigger ones so the monsters are there in 80’ to 100’. A buddy of mine nailed a 25 lber via speargun awhile back in 85’ in The Gardens, he got his pic in THE STATE for that one. But on hook and line? Wow! What a great fish. Never knew they would be so fierce on the end of a rod. Congrats!
well now that is just pretty darn cool right there…

That’s awesome, man. A little more motivation for the upcoming season, not that any is needed…
