The time has come where I’ve realized it’s time to give up the hot new toy and get what a good traditional family needs, a (**() fishing boat!…So I have a 2014 Axis A24 wake/surf boat. Hoping to trade it in for payoff and purchase something different. Preferably new. Don’t want to have to trade up to a diesel right now if I don’t have to vehicle wise. Have a 2015 Suburban and a 2010 Silverado LTZ 4x4. Budget $65,000 or less. Want to be able to tow comfortably. Prefer around 23’ but I would say range I’m looking in would be 21’-25’ so to not be a huge load to tow. Also, want to be family friendly as we spend a large part of our summers on Lake Murray and have a wife and 3 kids (11, 6 and 5) so comfortable seating/lounge area is a necessity for those days. Single or Twins doesn’t concern me. Give me suggestions on what boat/size you would recommend. Most new boats i’m seeing say “call for price” and I am not that kind of guy. I just want to know what the listing price is so I know if it’s worth my “call”. Also, those who have purchased at one, would you suggest waiting for the boat shows in January/February for the best deal?
222 Pioneer Sportfish. I bought mine at the boat show 2 years ago. In your price range with a 250 yamaha. Best laid out fishing boat in that size range you will find and family freindly also. I carry about 350 lbs of ice on an offshore trip with no coolers and it keeps for days in the fish boxes.
Looked At Sea Hunt Ultra 234 today. The 211 didn’t have any room. The 234 was nice but still didn’t seem too roomy. The dealership that sold me my current boat has Key West CC. The Key West 219FS I found very comfortable room wise but the 239FS seemed to be perfect. Letting them try to get top dollar on my boat on consignment and possibly look @ the Key West 239FS. Has a 300 Yammy on it. Powder coated hard top with misters. No electronics. $67,500. Any suggestions about the Key West?
I fish on a friends 234 ultra, great boat good seakeeping and pretty fuel-efficient. With that said I would’nt even think of buying a boat till the middle of December when everybody gets desperate. Go to your credit union and get preapproved. You can make a much better deal if you walk in with a site draft. Also if you like the Sea Hunt check out the Statesboro Georgia Dealership as many people on this site have bought boats there and saved thousands.

I’ve never bought a boat from them but have bought 3 engines and 2 trailers, and about 10 props and Yamaha maintenance items. Great people to deal with.
I have a 2015 Sea Hunt 24BXBR loaded with t-top and 2015 Yamaha 300 with double axle trailer. Simrad 12 inch touchscreen, stereo, vhf, 3 livewells, washdown, spreader lights. Boat was purchased new in March 2015. Asking $52,500. You won’t find a better deal on any new boat of that size.
Knot, If it weren’t a Bay Boat I would consider… Has anyone went out on the Kew West boats? My concern is how well it cuts the chop? I don’t want to get into something and get my tail beat in first trip out. Sells, thanks for info. I don’t plan to actually purchase unless it’s a can’t miss deal til boat show timeframe. Listed my boat online just to see what bites I get. I want to make the Charleston boat show but having the itch 3 months prior is going to take a lot of patience on this impulsive buyer.
I have fished 2 Key West out of Charleston, only boat I have been out on in 2 ft seas that gave me back pain… Just my opinion but have fished on many of boats smaller than those that took 3-4s better. Gamefish is an awesome setup.
Also, I would consider looking at Knot @ Works boat. Any machine he was willing to fish is def a valid boating option.
If you are concerned about performance in seas, you need to educate yourself on the boats in this class and their deadrise. Who cares if the boat has a ‘sharp entry V’ and only has 18 degrees of deadrise at the transom. That will be the determinant factor as far as how the boat rides comfortably in seas. I am not claiming to know what all these boats have at the transom concerning dead rise, but I do know the smaller 20 ft boats usually go to around 18 degrees. Thus you are getting slammed. Anyhow, do some research and enjoy the process. Be prepared to drive out of state, you can save big $ doing that. I drove to NC to grab my new ride a few years ago…saved thousands…
Look no further than this fishing MACHINE!!! I see you in this already… Look at the smiles on those guys’ faces. That’s the smile of someone who is “filling the gloo”…
